“Waiting for the Great Pumpkin?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

Look no further. You must booked reservations in advance for this small restaurant - our B&B did this a couple of days in advance. The place is tucked neatly into a alley with a small canal out front. The food was fresh and delicious. There are plenty of great choices for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. While the menu was all in Italian, the waitstaff was spoke enough English to help us make the perfect choices. The service was very friendly and atmosphere was charming. This is a must stop on a trip to Venice.

“Good food in a friendly & relaxed atmosphere, but...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

When we got to this restaurant around 7pm, a group of people was already waiting at the door for the place to open up, which I think is always a good sign. Soon after we were seated, the place was already fully packed, which is even a better sign.

Contrary to what some others are saying, La Zucca isn't a vegetarian restaurant in a strict sense, although they do have a selection of vegetarian dishes on their menu. My wife actually tried one of their vegetarian oven dishes and this proved to be very tasteful. Likewise, I really enjoyed the tagliatelle served with a tomatoe and meat sause, enhanced with some nice herbes. After that, I even more enjoyed the salsiccia and beans dish, which was simply delicious. So, this almost turned out to be a very delightful evening, enjoying great traditional Italian food, served by friendly, professional people in a nice and relaxing atmosphere.

One thing however struck me in a very negative way: the hygiene and general state of the lavatory in La Zucca was really not accepatable. I know this is not uncommon in many Italian restaurants, especially in such a touristic city like Venice, but hey give me a break! To me, this indicates lack of respect for the clientele, and for me this is enough reason to never go back to such a place. In case of La Zucca, this would really be a shame. So here's hoping that the owners read this reviews and do what's necessary to resolve this issue.

“pumpkin lasagna”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

the menu was in italian, and we didnt know what we were ordering. so we tried the lasagna and a pasta dish. everything we ate that night was delicious, from the bread, to the cheese, and the wine. nice relaxed atmosphere on the canal. the lasagna portion size wasnt too crazy, but we still enjoyed. They only take reservations at 7 and 9pm, and i would defiantly make reservations. we were 5 minutes early for our 9pm reservation and we had to wait for out table. would love to go back and try more

“Worth the walk! Worth every cent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

We read reviews and thought we would celebrate my sons 17th birthday, 23rd october 2012.
Longish walk from main sights, and hard to find. The restaurant was Warm and cosy, menus only in italian and very complex dishes however we managed to translate with a little help from the staff, Best veg lasagna and also best panna cotta ever, top marks! fresh home made food well worth the money!
