Hotel Carlton
Ranked #13 of 15 Hotels in Treviso
Reviewed November 25, 2013

I stayed at the Hotel Carlton for just one night on a trip to the beautiful town of Treviso. While I would not rate the hotel as a 4 star property, it is a solid mid range hotel. The hotel is located a few minutes from everything so whether you want to explore Treviso or head off to Venice (which is only 30 miutes away) it's a great base. Treviso itself is a wonderful, compact town filled with plenty of great bars, restaurants, shopping and lots of friendly locals.

The staff at reception were very friendly, welcoming and efficient but they required a passport for each guest upon check in which they held onto overnight. I was given a room on the third floor which was moderately sized but the bathroom was a decent size with a bath and shower. The room seemed quite warm and while there was air conditioning on the wall, it was easier to just open the windows!

There was plenty of storage, a small minibar and the all important safe. The bed was comfortable enough foe sleeping but if you wanted to lie in bed and watch tv, forget it! It's not the kind of room you're going relax and spend any lenght of time in but then again, why would you when you're a two minute walk away from the town centre.

My biggest gripe would be the water pressure and temperature in the bathroom, both of which were consistently inconsistent! The water pressure would be fine and then would drop off while the temperature would fluctuate between hot and cold every few seconds. Most annoying.

Breakfast was the usual continental affair and nothing spectacular but it was enough to set you up for the day.

A word of warning for those staying in Treviso on a Sunday morning. The churches of Treviso appear to compete in what can only be described as a 'church bell ring off' from about 7am to midday. You will not get a lie in Treviso on a Sunday!!

All in all, it's not the best hotel I've ever stayed in but it's by no means the worst and while it might be a bit rough around the edges, it has more positives than negatives for me and I would certainly use the Carlton again.

Stayed here for two days. Rooms are very small, bathroom even smaller, a big problem to have a shower, the fitting and furniture etc. are old. the room has a smell . was a big disappointment.
Location though is good, opposite the main train station. The breakfast is average. The staff though is friendly and helpful. Would not stay here again.

This hotel may have badge itself as a 4 star hotel But really I think all the effort has gone into the foyer Which I must say is fantastic, but wait until you get into the rooms. The walk along the drab (very confusing) corridors will give you a clue to what to expect when you finally find your room. To start with the room smelt of smoke, but we were only there for one night so we just opened the window. The bathroom had no curtain and our window overlooked an area of the park frequented by the less fortunate, with nothing better to look at. The carpet was filthy and the walls had signs of damp. We had to wait nearly two hours to get a seat in the restaurant (apparently the two coaches that arrived that night caught them by surprise!). When the food finally arrived again I have to say was excellent. Would I stay there again definitely no!

Room Tip: Not one facing the park!!

After reading other reviews from other web site's I chose this Hotel Because of convenience to Bus and Train for our onward journey to Padova.
We only stayed one night here, and would not have any second thoughts about staying Longer, or using this Hotel as our Base to travel around the area.
Front desk speak English and I found 'Omar' very helpful in Booking our stay over the Phone from Wales.
If you have used Traviso Airport and wish to return there at the end of your stay use the No 7 Bus outside the Train station ( Get your Bus Ticket in the Tobacco shop inside train Station), this bus will take you round the old city on your way back to Airport.

We spent one night in Treviso. We stayed at the Carlton Hotel which was a great location. Close to the train and bus station. Our room overlooked the Gardens and a bridge. Breakfast was also included and this was a continental breakfast which was plenty for us. The bed was not very comfortable but we were only spending one night so it was no big deal. It was clean.

We stayed at this hotel on the third night of our bicycle trip. The people at the front desk are simply not nice or helpful. Only one towel and a quarter roll of toilet paper. Shower designed to make sure more water goes on the floor than you. Hair dryer broken. Pillows so flat that your ears hurt lying on them. Do not stay here.

Room Tip: 311 was bigger than our friends' room. they got a closet.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights in early September during a visit to the Dolomites, Veneto towns and villages, and Venice itself. Booking was efficient with email traffic to a friendly reception desk. Our 4th floor room was comfortable with a balcony. although the lift was slow, and the air conditioning was good for keeping the temperature right but a bit noisy during the night. We did find other problems however - the fridge did not work and was never repaired despite reports to reception; the same applied to the room's safe where the bolts were permanently locked and it was never repaired. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful in advising on local restaurants such as L'Incontro which we would not have found without recommendation and direction. The management also helped to get us a drink after 11pm when the bar staff seemed to think they should pack up - and our tour party was about 30 strong and brought good trade to the hotel. Breakfasts were good. The great strength of the hotel is its location close to the rail and bus stations for easy access elsewhere, and also to Treviso airport if you fly there father than to Venice Marco Polo. Sadly the concept of complete customer service has not quite got through to this hotel in this very pleasant town.

Room Tip: Ask for a "comfort room" which will probably get you one on the 4th floor with a balcony
