“Haven of tranquility”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

This hotel is a real find. Alessandro and Chiara looked after us, nothing was too much trouble and the service was excellent and unobtrusive. Alessandro appears just like Mr Benn! The decor adds to the calm ambience of the hotel and the furnishing is delightful. There are no clocks, no phones and no kids! We would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms either have a bath or a shower

A very stylish, intimate place to stay in the heart of Treviso, with good shops, restaurants and the Basilica just steps away, making for a great stopover in the Veneto. The five ensuite rooms have been cleverly created in this old building. Great mattresses ensure a good night's sleep, though lighting throughout could be vastly improved for reading. The public rooms are furnished with beautiful, unusual pieces of furniture and the rather formal, sombre atmosphere is nicely balanced by the staff, who are warm and helpful in every way. A help- yourself selection of classy drinks and cookies is a homely touch, though readily available milk for tea and coffee would have been welcome. The elegant breakfast is served with pride but, for some guests, a few savoury items, though not typically Italian, may be preferred. Private parking is available but limited so advance booking is essential. NB. The adjacent building is undergoing renovation so there may be some construction noise during weekdays.

Room Tip: Each room is individual so guests should consult the hotel to choose one that suits their needs.

Dear Lydia,
we really thank you for your comment and we apreciated.
We are very sorry about the lighting. If we had knew it during your stay, we would have provided an additional lamp immediately!
Regarding the milk… it is always available to the guests, maybe we did not realize it was over. Sorry for that.
Anyway thank you for your helpful considerations and also for being with us.

We decided to visit treviso on Impulse so googled and searched for a lovely hotel and found mason Matilda.
First problem - rang the hotel direct as they advertise last minute offers - I don't speak perfect Italian but was passable to ask for a room. Reply - no... ok, so I looked again at a website and managed to boom it! Hmmm...
Arrived and we were welcomed but told that our car would have to be parked elsewhere as the garage was full. We complied.
Shown to our room - v lovely but no bath so asked if there was a room with bath - reply no....but I later looked again on the Internet and there was one - and on,y one other couple staying at the hotel.
The next morning (our room faced the street so we were woken by drilling) we had a nice breakfast and then at 9.45 or so decided it would be nice to look at the city Walls and walk there for half an hour - only problem was our car was outside the hotel. We checked with the other couple and they confirmed they did not have a car parked in the garage. As we were going out the door we were again stopped and told we would have to move the car. Even when we said we would only be half an hour.
All in all a lovely hotel, room and building but perhaps the member of staff was not very proficient in English or civility - we did not feel that we had value for money here because of this.

this was my 2nd stay there and it was perfect again. Special thanks to Sandro who makes this small hideaway so special. We enjoyed the best breakfast in Italy! This time we tried the suite and although the windows have street view we had an absolute calm stay. I would like to recommend this luxury b&b to every tourist who is willing to discover the beauty of Veneto. Great typical venetian restaurants within 5 min. walk.

This luxury bed and breakfast is really lovely - I am reluctant to write a review because I want to be able to return. The building is beautifullly restored with fabulous furnishings, the staff are very helpful and friendly, and the breakfast prepared by Alex was the best I had during our week in Italy. I have stayed in Venice at the Cipriani and the Ca Sagredo - Cipriani don't bother - huge and impersonal and cheaply furnished rooms, lovely pool though, but why go to Venice to stay by the pool? Ca Sagredo lovely but has priced itself too highly now, and when I reviewed it last time, even at these prices no fresh juice at breakfast. Staying outside of Venice is a good option, involves a 30 minute train ride but beats the high prices they are charging for tiny rooms - I would recommend the Maison Matilda for a romantic break (not for the frail/elderly or children - due to the stairs). We will go back, if only to spend some time exploring Treviso itself and enjoying the oustanding hospitality at the Maison Matilda

We travel extensively in Italy and often to Treviso – after our stay at Maison Matilda this summer, there is no question in our minds that Maison Matilda offers travelers some of the best that Treviso has to offer.

Centrally located, Maison Matilda is a short walk to the main Piazza and the central shopping, cafe, wine bar and restaurants of Treviso. For a change in pace, Maison Matilda is also a short walking distance to take a stroll on the tree lined walls of Treviso on a hot summer day or to explore the canals, art and history Treviso has to offer. And, as far as my wife is concerned, the icing on the location cake was the location of professional esthetician and hair salon services within steps of the main entrance.

Elena and Christian, the proprietors of Maison Matilda, have spared no attention to detail to insure the comfort of their guests. The guest rooms are private, spacious and tastefully appointed. The adjoining washrooms and amenities are at Spa level quality. The beds were of the highest comfort – a welcomed and restful change from many of our travels in Italy.

The common areas were also tastefully appointed and spacious enough to provide for a sense of privacy if so desired. We very much enjoyed our breakfasts, the look and feel of the open area Terraces and the excellent service that was provided by Sandro, the manager of the property.

Sum it all up - Maison Matilda is a jewel in Treviso’s crown. If you would like to experience Treviso as it could be, should be - Maison Matilda is the right choice.
