We loved this vast space which is the largest public square in Italy. Its elliptical shape is very unusual and we loved the waterway with its four bridges and 78 statues.

Been here for lunch while visiting Venice, just because is close to it and will give you a bit of a scene changing. In the same plaza there is the Basilica Sta Justina, which is full of history and a unique piece of art . Justina is the Patron Saint of Padua (Padova) and it said she was killed after she took her private vows for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in 304 AD. Anyways..all together is a great place to visit and also very nice Italian restaurants around, with good coffee and best authentic Italian pizza...Also the largest plaza in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. If you ever go to Padova, take a bus and go to Venice as well...well worth it (not in the summer...it stinks from all the water between the buildings). Is about 30-40 min away

We started our day in Padua bu walking to the southernmost part of the historic area and came upon Prato della Valle. There was nothing visually special about it except its size.

Prato della Valle is a large square in the beautiful old city of Padova. This oval area has a grassy park in the middle surrounded by water. It's a magical oasis in which to relax on a bench under the trees and statues.
