Hotel Donatello

We stayed at Hotel Donatello in Padova unexpectedly after a mixup with our reservation at another hotel.
One will immediately view the Basilica Sant'Antonio once stepping out of the hotel. The advantage of the hotel is that it is a pleasant walking distance to Prato Della Valle , Palazzo Della Ragione, and the lively Piazza dei Signori.
Although the hotel's decor is outdated 1980's style, the rooms are spotlessly clean and large ( we stayed in a two bedroom suite). Wifi is free in the room. Breakfast is decent but variety is lacking( packaged mostly). However, the croissants, cappuccino and espresso were good.
The staff were courteous and efficient.
Although the hotel looks a little tired in decor, it is worth recommending for its excellent location, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff.

We love Padua and more so after our recent stay in Hotel Donatello.Superb location,a cosy
traditional style hotel a good example of warm Italian hospitality. Charming, professional but
friendly and helpful staff all spoke English. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast. Our room was
spacious, clean and comfortable as was the ensuite bathroom.

Room Tip: Best location and disabled friendly

Padova's train station and immediate location does not exactly fill the traveler with confidence upon arrival. However, after a moderate walk (perhaps try a taxi to get closer and reduce walking time) you find the hotel in a truly excellent location, right in the middle of Padova and all its restaurants, cafes and squares.

Staff were equally excellent, very friendly and helpful. Our room was well appointed with nice decor and ensuite, free wifi as well.

Breakfast was very good, a little on the "pre-packaged" side but coffees made at the bar was a pleasant change to the self-service coffee at other similar standard Italian hotels.

Don't be put off by the rather dated photos that are on the booking websites, they could do with some updating as it looks much nicer!

Didn't plan to stay in this hotel on my recent trip to Padova, but it is the area where I usually do stay, so I was happy to try it out. The room was rather small, and the bathroom even smaller (no tub, only a shower), and the decor was fairly outdated, but it did have some elements in its favour: lovely view to the Basilica, completely dark at night thanks to the wooden shutters, spotlessly clean bed linen, free wifi and very affordable drinks in the minibar. On the downside, the corridors are narrow, a bit dark, and the breakfast was somewhat 'pre-packaged'.

The hotel Donatello is in a very central location. The staff is friendly and the rooms are good. We asked for a room in the back to be away from the noisy square. Breakfast is ok. Quality to price ratio is good. However, this is not a 4 star hotel and the hotel would need some renovation.

Old fashioned, but pleasantly so. Very central location, everywhere seems to be in walking distance. Four star is pushing things a bit here however and breakfast is rather limited. Parking is a real plus and there is no charge - but this is not a modern garage and is best managed with a small Italian car.
