“Ideal location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2011

Have just returned from a week long stay at The Hotel Donatello in Padua. Ideally situated approx 50mts from Basicilla Saint Anthony and 1.3km from bus and rail stations. The hotel itself has 44 rooms, some smoking if required are available but these face out onto a back courtyard and the view not very impressive. The room we stayed in was spotless bed linen & towels changed every day, cold buffet breakfast each morning was plentiful. Finally the staff from Receptionist's, Dining room staff & housekeeping were so warm a friendly and nothing was to much for them to do for us. We also travelled to Venice twice and Verona once using public transport which is superb. We will return Hotel Donatello in Padua again.

Perfect location, across from St. Anthony's basilica, 2 steps from everything else including the Scrovengi Chapel, yet you feel as if you're in a small, peaceful town. Excellent accomodations for the money; knowledgable, friendly staff.

Room Tip: Off the street.

Solid 3 star hotel w/free parking (by advance reservation), breakfast, & wifi hard by St Anton and close to public transport. Comfortable rooms w/ a/c. Good breakfast. Good value for money. Nearby tram goes directly to the train station (for Venice or Verona).

Stayed here for two nights at the end of our touring holiday, and it was great. We had booked a panoramic double to spoil ourselves at the tend of the hols, and we weren't too disappointed - only that the balcony was so small that you couldn't get on it!! Mind you it was so hot we kept the windows shut and relied on the central heating. This hotel has a great restaurant and the wine/beer is considerably cheaper than the bars nearby. Was a little disappointed with the breakfast, no meats on display, you helped yourself to a pack of "value" meat from the fridge, far too much for two and not the tstiest. That said, the staff were really helpful and knowledgeable, very courteous - and the toiletires in the bathroom were top class, and replenished daily.

I was in Padova for business in March and split a 2 week period between Hotel Donatello and the NH Mantegna (also reviewed). Although there had not been a recent review, I chose this hotel primarily because of the location.

It must be stated that this is a very traditional european hotel and does not have many of the bells/whistles of high end properties in the US. That being said, I really enjoyed my stay there and would recommend it for those willing to forego WIFI, millions of electrical plugs and enjoy a traditional atmosphere. It is exquisitely clean. The staff were not only professional, but quite helpful. The room which was a large double overlooking the Basilica di St. Antonio, had a king sized bed and had large shuttered windows. The bathroom was large with a small, but well-designed shower.

For the price it was a very good value and included a continental breakfast. It is minutes from the historical center of Padova, but quieter than staying directly in the center. The church bells and the opening of the business shutters each morning added to the charm, but may annoy light sleepers.

Would recommend this hotel for relative quiet near tourist attractions, primarily because the staff was so helpful. Caters to both italians and tourists.
