“Sad sad sad”
Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

Old decor, sad dining room. Very slow service. Overpriced. Bad piano player. If you are over 60 you might like it. Otherwise keep positive and happy and go somewhere else. Thank god we only came for a dinner. If we had booked as a hotel I'd have thrown myself off the Matterhorn.

Good afternoon mister Roger (as I can guess from your tripadvisor name),

we are always very happy to read the review about our hotel in any cases: if the are good because it's an enourmous satisfaction to know that our clients enjoyed the time spent with us, which is our main objective; but even more in the case of bad comments because they are a strong motivation to improve and to see our organization from another point of view.

Of course, I'm considering "constructive" reviews and not "empty" subjective considerations which are not a help to improve.

You use the expression "old decor". Well, it's quite strange. The dining room has been totally renewed in 2008.
Therefore, in a way, it could be a compliment because our objective was to recreate the old mountain style. Maybe you confused vintage with old.

What can you suggest to improve our "sad" dining room?
And what do you mean with sad?

"If you are over 60 you might like it" you say. Well maybe the athmosphere is too relaxing for you, but why do you think young people wouldn't appreciate that?
Of course if you were expecting a disco or a club our hotel was not the right place to choose.

Normally people love Nicola, our pianist. So, I guess there is no way to improve in this case.

"Very slow service". This is the only point we will be happy to improve. Thank you.

Just back from a lovely week at this hotel. We had great service, lovely food and thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in front of the fires in the evening while the pianist entertained us. We discovered that under the ski de fondo, just round the corner, is Italy's highest golf course and we will be going back in the summer to see if altitude will improve our drive and to relax in this super little hotel.

Good morning,
thank you very much for your words and the time you spent writing them!

We are more than happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.
We love the expression "lovely little hotel" that you used: in fact, our main objective is to try to make our guests feeling like at home.
The fire places are always a good way to relax after an intense day of ski.

Yes, you are right. There is a very nice golf course "under" the cross-counrty winter ring.
You can have a look on the web-site of the "Golf Club del Cervino", so you can have a preview of it.
We will be glad to see you again during the summer.

Thank you again,

Giuseppe Maquignaz, the manager of the Bucaneve Hotel.

What a great hotel. Staff were friendly, service was great, rooms clean and comfortable and located in town close to the slopes.

We spent the second week in January at hotel Bucaneve. From the moment we walked in everyone was friendly and helpful. The bar/lounge area had a couple of fire places and comfortable chairs where you can enjoy a glass of wine while reading books after a day on the slopes.

For our first couple of days we needed to take the big gondola's up to plan Maison- the hotel kindly provided us transfers which saved us the 20 minute walk to the gondola's. For the rest of our stay we had a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the main ski lifts.

Being in the town the hotel offered very easy access to the pubs/restaurants and clubs of Cervinia. We made use of the location to try out the various dining options in the town. For a small town it does have a nice variety of options.

The rooms were standard 4star rooms, no baths but a shower. There was a mini bar that was stocked daily which was very convenient. There was also free wifi in the rooms which made keeping in touch with home and sharing the pics much cheaper and easier

We can definitely recommend the hotel.

We went this week-end for a little escape and really enjoyed this charming hotel, rustic style, very clean and great service.
The amazing is the warm welcome, the fact that your room is prepared before you go to sleep, then on next day, while you are having breakfast etc... 3 times a day at least.
Breakfast is a buffet with fresh fruits to do your own juices; selection is good and quality as well. We enjoyed at night the piano bar where the same person that welcomed us was playing, singing and animating the living with several different songs of all types. A large file and we could appreciate his involvement to please customers.
By the way, very good situation with amazing sightview on Cervin/Matterhorn from your room... we took superior rooms though, really worth! And silence... really silent hotel :-)

A warm thank you and please visit there, because the village itself is charming and good restaurants like "da Mario" are delicious.

Room Tip: Ask for superior room.

We stayed here about 5 years ago & since then the hotel has been refurbished. We were worried that what we liked about it before (the bar, the pianist, the rustic decor) would have changed. Fortunately it has been enhanced.
The lounge/bar and dining room have a lovely atmosphere but the reason for this review is to say how great all the staff are. Throughout our stay they were all really friendly and helpful but they excelled themselves towards the end of the holiday when due to a family crisis we had to fly home early. They could not have been more helpful in arranging flights and transfers to the Airport. Our friends who stayed behind told us that even after we had left they were enquiring how things were at home.
This level of service is rare and we really appreciated it.

We picked this Hotel because our apartment wasn't ready at another location. What a pleasant surprise!! On our arrival Nicole, the musician, upon finding we were from San Francisco, played and sang " I left my heart in San Francisco" by Tony Bennett. The owner, Giuseppe, works is the restaurant in the evening and is very engaging and informative. The food was perfect. We had a Jr suite which was adequate. Our only criticism is that the beds and pillows were too hard and need to be upgraded. The staff was excellent. A well managed and very clean hotel. We plan on going again next year.

We spent Christmas at the Hotel Bucaneve, and what a good choice. Recently re-furbished to a very good standard, wooden floors, walls were decorated in traditional fabrics.
Facilities; The hotel consists of two fireside lounges, comfortable sofas, and armchairs, fires are generally lit about 4.30 – 5pm. To the side is a bar area, where every night the manager/owner plays the piano, sings and sometimes his son accompanies him on the saxophone. WI-Fi is available throughout the hotel, free of charge. There is a a reasonable size ski room, with boot warmers. The whole place has recently been refurbished to a high standard, decked in wood, and fabric walls, tastefully done. On Christmas Eve, the spa/wellness centre opened. Lift passes can be purchased in reception.
Meals: taken in a lovely cosy restautane, similar to that of an Austrian Stuble. The staff are lovely, very attentive, and speak good English.. Breakfast consisted of meats/cheese, pastries, cereals etc. Hot option was any style of eggs made to order. There were two ‘juicers’ so you could prepare yourself fresh fruit juice. Dinner consisted of 5 courses, beautifully presented, and well cooked. Bread was homemade, and the food cooked consisted of local produce. Wine tends to be around 20 euros a bottle and if you don’t drink it all, they will cork it and put it away for the next night. If you don’t want to buy bottled water, they will bring you a jug of tap water. Also, included at about 4pm was afternoon tea, with home baked cake, this was prepared in the lounge.
Location - very convenient, take a left out of the hotel and walk alongside the Hotel Lyskam and you are at the Cretz lift, less than 100 m. It is just off a lovely ‘cobbled’ main street, but like most things in Cervinia, everything is close by. Also, added bonus only 1hr 40 mins from Turin airport, so no long coach transfer..
Room – we had a nice superior room. Very spacious, clean, and cozy. We had a balcony and a sitting area, SKY TV, mini bar, safe, plenty of storage space. Bathroom had a bath and overhead fixed shower, with shower screen. Toiletries, slippers and bathrobes were also included.
Skiing - lots of skiing, beware though bad weather can close the higher lifts therefore closing all links to the other side of the mountain(Valtournanche, Zermatt). All lifts are 4/6 man chairs, gondolas, and cable car, button lifts only really appear on beginner slopes. Lovely blues and the reds aren’t too daunting. Great place to learn or gain confidance. The Plan Maison gondola is about a 10 min walk, with boots on, so if you are a beginner I would suggest staying near to that, that way you can get up to the main ‘blue area’ of Plan Maison, You can reach the Plan Maison area from the Cretz via 2 chair lifts, then ski a nice blue run down, but if winds are high, that 2nd chairlift is closed, so you have to work your way to the Gondola.
…we liked this hotel, it is warm, cosy, and the staff are lovely, certainly had the personal touch. I would return to this hotel and to the resort.
