“Wonderful hotel for my anual ski holiday!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2014

I have stayed at Hotel Lyskamm in the period 18-25.01.2014.
"Lyskamm" is ideally located and provides a very good ski-in ski-out experience, just a few meters away from the lift.
The rooms are big, clean and with a decent furnishing.
We had a “half board” basis. The food is very well prepared, the portions and meals are fairly big!
Good overall service, nice and friendly staff, quiet and comfort family atmosphere... everything is top notch!
If you are fan of the luxury, maybe this is not the best place for you, but if you prefer an authentic skier atmosphere - go for the one in "Lyskamm", Cervenia.

We wanted to find a convenient hotel and skiing center to get our 9-year kid used to the Alps skiing slopes. For that, the combination of Cervinia and Hotel certainly Lyskamm delivered (with proper due to be paid to the higher powers for a really good weather).

Now, bear in mind that Lyskamm is properly rated as a 3-star property. So you shouldn’t expect anything extraordinary, luxurious or out-of-this-world. But, on the other hand, it is a classic family hotel, run by a sister and a brother, with their mother (who with his late husband set up the place in the 60s) occasionally serving drinks at the bar. So they've been around enough to know what skiers (especially those with children) need. Everything required for good skiing holiday is there (separate entrance ski storage, boot driers etc) and since it is the same staff around practically 24/7, everyone gets to know each other fast, and the hospitality feels convenient, real and natural.

The location is down on the village street level, but could not be much handier. Lyskamm is literally in front of one of the main lifts (not the funivia, but the Cretaz chairlift) and the other side of the building is 50 meters from the main street (read: many bars, shops and 'apres ski' places)

Wi-Fi separately priced (but moderately, 5 eur/day or 20 eur/week) but it was quite unreliable. Once I got connection I was okay (I was able to watch NFL Playoffs live, no problemo) but there were times connecting took ages. The owner told me that they had just installed some new routers and that the root problem is the connectivity out of Cervinia. Don’t know.

We had half-board and were happy with the choice. Picky foodies might consider Lyskamm’s kitchen too “home-cooked”, but staying there nine days, we actually considered the style of cooking a good thing (there is a limit how many days in a row one can eat Hilton Club Sandwiches). Further, having the same friendly waiters for every meal further added to convenience (including them storing left-over drinks for next day and stuff). Remember, though, that Aosta Valley kitchen is not for the carb-watching folks (pasta, pasta..).

Can’t say much about price/value because we stayed during busy New Year’s period and booked at the time when we didn’t have much options. Bearing in mind that the Alps holidays in proper hotels during busy times are never super-cheap, I didn’t feel ripped off, however, in any way.

So all in all, a good stay.

Side note: for transportation from Milan to Cervinia, we used http://www.europeantransfer.com. Highly recommended. Only 50 eur per head one way, door-to-door and no extras for skis. Further, they have a very working online tool. Just enter a request, pay per credit card or paypal and after that they send you clear e-mail notification and one day before a SMS with the driver’s direct phone number in case something happened (nothing in our case, driver was exactly there where supposed to be, waiting with a spacious minivan).

Just returned from such a relaxing skiing holiday, due to this lovely hotel. It couldnt be any closer to the chairlifts, walk out of the front door and there you are! None of the usual stomping miles just to get to the lifts. Two chairlifts at the front, that both take you up to some lovely wide blue runs. Then get cable cars from there up further if you want more skiing. An easy blue run brings you back down to the town, finishing on the blue piste that deposits you at two great outdoor bars/cafes for your post-ski vin brulee. One is great for a drink or snack. But sit in the Restaurant Grotta area if you want an authentic wood fire pizza or delicious pasta.
The owners, a brother and sister and mother are lovely. Very helpful and friendly. The waiters and all staff we met were the same. One waiter even helped me do up my ski boots when I couldnt manage!
The food is delicious. Four courses each night. All prepared fresh by the kitchen. They also remembered each evening that my daughter was vegetarian and made sure that she was catered for. Breakfast is a buffet, a great start to the day on the slopes.
Our room was perfect. We had a premium room looking out the front of the hotel, with a balcony overlooking the slopes. Lovely to watch the goings on at all different times of the day.
Our children had a room on the side of the hotel, again it was nice, but if you like a view opt for the premium/balcony room.
The bathrooms were spotless with a shower/bath. The rooms were cleaned and beds made every day, which was great to come home to.
There is a great boot/ski room in the basement with boot warmers.
As for the skiing. Mostly blues and reds. Our party was a mixture of shaky intermediates and expert and it suited us great. A couple of us went over to Zermatt for the day to check out some more difficult slopes.
The mountain restaurants are mostly self service. Our favourite was Chalet Etoile above Plan Maison. They made the most tasty homemade soups, cream tomato and goulasch.
Overall, a wonderful holiday. Lovely little town.
Stay at Hotel Lyskamm if you go, you will love it!!

Room Tip: Premium room at the front of hotel with balcony. Lovely and light with brilliant view of slopes.

It was a great pleasure to stay in Lyskamm! Nice and clean room, the nearest place to lift, the view to Cervino mountain, very tasty dishes and you can order a special menu for children. Quiet and calmly for baby sleep. Ski room with boots dryer in a basement, 20 meters to ski rent and lifts. Owners, waiters and housemaid are very kind. Hope to return in Lyskamm again!

In brief, liked it very much))

Now the details:
- good location - the hotel is the closest to the chairlifts (lifts are virtually 30m from the hotel door), you can go 2 lifts up then ride down (to warm up) to plain maison and then go everywhere;
- extremely and unbelievably tasty food, every day we had a small gastronomic festival for dinner, the choice of dishes is good, all are extremely tasty and well-made, I can't find proper words to describe, but this was one of the things that made our holiday pleasant
- the atmosphere itself is friendly, administration is attentive to every guest and issue (if there is any), people are just good and nice, waiters are friendly and professional;
- rooms are not big, but ok for 2 people, especially given that most of the day we were riding, then apres-ski-ing, then having dinner and playing cards in the bar, rooms are perfectly fine for having a shower and rest;
- convenient separate room for storing ski and drying boots
- breakfast is not extremely diverse, but the products are good, and there is good choice, so you can choose and avoid repetition for a couple of days in row (there is muesli, sandwiches, yogurt, fresh fruits, preserved fruits, abundance of tasty pastry, eggs etc.)

One minus probably is that we were not really impressed by the towels, when you use it feels a bit like using a bed sheet. Also it may have sense to put a small stand in the room to dry clothes after skiing. That is why we put 4 for the room. But to be honest it does not really move the needle, as the hotel is a great place to stay. But please mind that this is at the end of a day a 3-star hotel, not a 5-star, so please do not expect a ritz carlton here. It is a nice boutique hotel run by very nice people.

Room Tip: Would be very good if you get a room with the view over the mountains

Me and my family stayed here week 7 2013. It is a small hotel with very kind owners and personnel. The location is perfect, 20 meters to the lifts. Our superiour room was good, nice view (the Cerino and the slopes) and actually a jacuzzi bath. We had half board rooms; the breakfast is good with various bread, yoghurt, müsli, eggs, cheese, ham, marmalade. Dinner is traditional Italian 4 rustique dishes; antipasti, primi piatti, secondi piatti and dolce/formaggi. Nice wine list with local (Aosta valley) wines, Piemonte wines, other Italian as well as wines from France or the new world.

We'd love to come back to Cervinia and Hotel Lyskamm.
