“We heard it would be great, but it was much better”

We came from Chamonix on the way to Montreux, Switzerland because we had heard some good things about Aosta. As we approached Aosta, it looked pretty dreary until our GPS told us to "turn left" and we headed up the hill. This is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at and we travel a lot. Our room was great with a balcony and a spectacular view of the valley. They have a wonderful spa with steam, sauna and two hot tubs. The pool is fantastic, with beautiful grassy areas with plenty of shade to dry off, read, or take a nap. They serve a very nice tea in the late afternoon and the breakfasts, which were included, are generous and delicious.

If you don't want to drive into town, you can walk about 400 meters up the hill to a little family restaurant, Amphora. The food is good and it's cheap. Friendly service and it was filled with locals when we were there.

Aosta old town lives up to its charming reputation - just a few minutes drive. We learned that parking is free on Saturday afternoons and all day Sunday. The museo has an excellent exhibit of Roman artifacts. The best was the recreated wine bar, complete with amphorae and graffiti. The cathedral is impressive, and next to it, they have dug out the old Forum. It's all underground now, and you can walk along two of the long porticos, eerily lit, while you listen to soft New Age music. We ate at two excellent restaurants, Vecchia Aosta in the Praetorian gate and Aosta Antica, near the Arch of Augustus.

We recommend the Parc Nazional, especially if you have kids. About 13 kilometers away.

Milleluci is well worth it, and we would like to come back.

Left our beautiful room at Relais d'Amelia in Benevello and drove to Aosta for the last leg of our trip. It took about two and a half hours and frustration set in as we were trying to locate the Hotel Milleuci near the center of Aosta. We finally found it after stopping two times to get directions. In fairness, the streets are not well marked and one has to use their sense of direction to get where you want to go given all the roundabouts. As we got closer signs to the hotel appeared. The place is situated on a hill and a 5 minute walk to the old town. Our room faced the mountains with a balcony and is adequate for a double room. The internet reception is non existent from our room on the 2nd floor, but the breakfast is extensive and the shower very effective. The place has a large pool and a small pool with play area for kids,a hot tub for skiers, a steam room, a dry sauna and so called emotional showers. Service was very good, the grounds with flowers were in full bloom and the views magnificent.

My husband and I spent one night here on our way from Venice to Burgundy. It seems as though it was the best choice in the area however it won’t go down as one of my favorite hotels. That is due to my quirky tastes, however, and not because there is much wrong here. I was expecting more of an authentic Swiss-like farmhouse but it’s really a purpose-built hotel with identical rooms along several floors of corridors. There are woodsy touches but it’s basically cookie-cutter with surprisingly small, dated bathrooms. The lobby, however is very interesting. The furniture is upholstered in a bright apple print…LOTS of it…and antique farm tools and implements are lovingly displayed everywhere. We were sorry there wasn’t a restaurant. We walked up the road to a neighborhood place, pleasantly packed with local families but it wasn’t the relaxing dining experience we were anticipating. However breakfast was quite a feast, with a splendid array of almost everything you could imagine in a European morning buffet. Internet service was touch and go. Aosta, in general, does not seem to be quick to reveal it’s charms.

Room Tip: I believe they're all the same.

After a whirlwind two weeks of travel to the big cities in Italy my husband and I decided a week in the Valle D'Aosta would be our winding down time and the Hotel Milleluci was the perfect place. Start your day with a breakfast buffet that looks more like a feast than breakfast fare, then to the fitness room to burn off a few calories. In the summer you could laze poolside while setting your sites on Alpine mountains and grape vineyards across the valley. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The Alpine decor is charming. The hotel sits hillside overlooking the old town which is just minutes away by car. (there is also space for meetings.)

Milleluci is also a great location if tou wish to visit the many scenic valleys nearby

This family run hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Located just up a hill from the center of Aoste, a medium size town with a lovely old center, pedestrian zone and wonderful shops, restaurants and cafés. Very warm welcome at this lovely hotel; everything is spotlessly clean. Absolutely beautiful swimming pool with views over the Aosta hills and town, and more than enough lounge chairs even in high season we never had to worry about getting a seat by the pool. The pool is large enough to do laps in, swimming at 7am before breakfast was a highlight of our stay. Nice spa and sauna area.
Breakfast is lovely with many home made cakes, biscuits and puddings. You can also ask for eggs made to order.
Rooms are decorated in a basic manner with tile floors and functional but not luxurious bathrooms. Everything is clean and well maintained.
Rooms were quiet (no street noise) but the terraces outside the rooms are quite small and close together; if another customer goes out at night and talks or smokes you will hear and smell it. We had to make a comment to our neighbors one night and they were very considerate and stopped talking on the terrace.
Easy access to many restaurants (2 or 3 can be reached on foot, the others 5 minute car ride down to the town). Parking in town was easy.
Lots to do in the area many lovely walks and hikes.
Highly recommend this hotel.
Free parking and internet.

Reviews here are right. This is truly a great place to stay. Upon arriving in Italy and driving through Aosta we were feeling a bit “down” of the somewhat disappointing appearance of the city which thankfully was reversed when we arrived at the hotel. It is a well restored hotel with great rooms, many of which have balconies overlooking the valley. the rooms are spacious and contained all we needed. Furthermore, the hotel has a wellness area - free of charge – which includes an outdoor spa area. We sat there one cold evening outside in the hot spa with view of the stars and the mountains – wonderful. Breakfast is also a huge positive – you could make you own orange juice, there was a variety of Italian cakes, cheese and sausages every morning.
In general service in the hotel is good and staff is helping in any way and as much as they can. While staying at the hotel we had problems using the internet. Although free of charge it is still annoying when it wasn’t working. It has to be said that the staff did all they could to make it work and eventually let me borrow one of their computers, but it simply did not work from anywhere in the hotel. Yet, in total we can only give Hotel Milleluci our best recommendations.

Room Tip: get one with balcony

In the last two years we have spent six weeks touring Germany and Italy, staying in various 3-4 star accommodations. This by far was one of the two best (Castle Fragsburg being the other) in all of our stays. From the incredible breakfast buffet to the gorgeous grounds and swimming pool to the absolutely first class customer service we couldn't have asked for more. If you intend on travelling in northwestern Italy this is a must stay. Don't forget to visit the local neighbourhood restaurant 400 metres up the road.
