Nicely situated in the pedestrial zone, nice place and nice people. But the quantities were rather small, the quiche quite good but really tiny. The rice with spinach was not warm enough. The veal alla valdostane was very good and the white local wine was excellent. The desserts were really below level. The crepe was hard, over-coocked. And the peach crostade was... to forget. There were almost no peaches, 6 tiny slices only, the crostade was not good, and there were some tiny parts of biscuits around. All this could be acceptable but not for 75 euro.

This is a small but very cozy and tasefully decorated family run restaurant right on the main pedestrian shopping street just beyond the praetorian gate and we found it superb. Fortunately, we made resewrvations for last saturday as it was full up. We both had the degustation menu which was superb along with three owner recommended local wines which were suprisingly excellent - as we were previously unaware of wine from this area. The service was personal and superb and in French which was a help as our Italian is purely operatic. It was a truly unforgetable experience.

This is a family run restaurant which turns out exceptionally high quality food. There are not many tables so you need to arrive early to be lucky if, like us, you have no reservation.

The meal we had was superb and at EUR 36 per head very good value. We also had the dessert wines with that course which was perhaps a little ambitious but wonderful choices.

Search for osteria da nando online and click on the kitchen link. There are a number of great photographs of their food and in particular their signature dishes.

The night before my wife and I dined at this place, we ate at another excellent restaurant in Aosta that we gave high marks. We would rate this place marginally better -- the food was beyond excellent; it was really superb. I would disregard the one review of this restaurant that is quite negative. We had more food than that person (two antipastos, two primi, two deserts, wine and coffee) and a smaller bill. The menu is limited, but based on what we had and what we saw others served, that's not a problem, because it's all good. (An apparently suave and knowledgeable Frenchman at the next table was obviously wowed by the food, and asked for detailed descriptions of the ingredients.) Much of the menu will be unfamiliar (even if you've become familiar with the standard fare in this part of Italy), but the main waitress speaks excellent English and will be glad to explain.
