Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Buonconsiglio Castle is the largest and most important monumental complex of the Trentino Alto Adige region. It was the residence of the prince-bishops of Trento from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century, and is composed of a series of buildings of different eras, enclosed by walls and positioned slightly higher than the city. Castelvecchio is the oldest nucleus, dominated by an imposing cylindrical tower; the Magno Palazzo is the 16th century expansion in the Italian Renaissance-style as commissioned by the Prince-Bishop and Cardinal Bernardo Cles (1485-1539); the Baroque-style Giunta Albertiana dates from the end of the 17th century. At the extreme south of the complex is the Torre Aquila, within which is conserved the famous Cycle of the Months, one of the most fascinating secular pictorial cycles of the late Middle Ages.

“Attention!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

Guys, be very careful while paying the entrance ticket with your credit card 'cause I've just found out the cashier charged me 10 euros instead of 5 (I had a student discount). Of course it's my fault I inserted PIN code without checking the amount of money but the administration that charged me a double price definitely cheated me, that's really mean of them.

“Princes and Bishops”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

Take your walking shoes. Interesting frescoes. Staff helpful. Worthwhile to visit both the Torre del Falco and the Torre Aquila where one can see even more beautiful frescoes from the 1530s.

“Fascinating history and artifacts in a giant time-capsule”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

Sheer size seemed daunting at first, but the organisation and information of artifacts become increasingly effective as you make your way through the labyrinth of rooms, courtyards, stairways and galleries. Make sure that you take the special tour of the paintings of the 11 months of the year, complete with audio-guide - well worth 1 0r 2 Euros extra - the culmination & highlight of the visit - allow time for extensive walking (1-2 hours) - ideal on a rainy day - good cafe.

“Charming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

Trento is a beautiful city! Worth visiting. The Castello was amazing-especially the frescos of the months in the Torre Aquila. Several very different exhibitions were on view and were very well organised. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. I love this place and could have stayed for hours.

Just a great place to visit in Trento. My family spent two entertaining and educational hours there.
