“Big hostel in the middle of the Trento”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2010

The location of Giovane Europa is both and advantage and disadvantage of the place. It’s near the railway station and city center, but finding a parking space in the area is very difficult, so the place is not recommended for car owners. The rooms are spacious and tidy, but a bit dark in my opinion. The building is quite big, and the decor is cold, so it’s not very homelike. The free breakfast is very simple – one will obviously await something more filling.

We asked for a double and were told that they only had "French" doubles available. Apparently this means a large single bed - I'm 5'5" and my partner is 6' so we're not that tall but there was not enough space in the bed for the two of us. The beds don't have proper mattresses - it's just foam so it was the most uncomfortable night we had all holiday.
The staff generally just about manage to be polite but they are not friendly and if you ask them a question they can't be bothered to help you - they just tell you to go tourist info in town.
There is a kitchen but it has been blocked up and guests can't use it - breakfast is included but it is pretty grim and if you try to take it out of the dining room to eat on the tables outside the staff will tell you off!
Similarly, the Internet station has been removed - it's as though they want to make the place as unwelcoming and sterile as they possibly can.
It says that it has been rennovated recently but they must have missed our room! The shower was really old and had some suspicious marks in it - we just used as quickly as possible.
All in all, I would say - Avoid this place and spend a few extra Euros on somewhere that gives you a bit of value for money and that actually wants your business!

When we arrived we were told our double wasn't available for the first night of our booking but they did offer us separate dorms bed. We then discovered there's no communal kitchen for cooking your own food (like most hostels provide).
The double we were in was clean and comfortable. The hostel is in a great location beside the train and bus stations. We didn't mind the noise of the trains because it didn't go on that late in the night and in the morning the view of the mountains was great.
The staff were a mixed bunch - some friendly, some aloof.
Perfect for the budget traveller (except for no cooking facilities). Don't expect much from breakfast.
