“A great place for lunch”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

This is the least touristic restaurant on the Piazza del Duomo in Trento. The menu of appetizers, pastas, main dishes and desserts is short and changes daily (always a good sign). The food emphasizes local specialties; preparations and presentations are excellent. A broad cheese board provides a good finishing touch to the meal. There is a large and very good selection of wines by the glass, and the list of wines by the bottle with its regional choices is commendable as well. Service is prompt and friendly.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

A great location. The service was painfully slow, strangely not all guests dishes were brought out together. Also key ingredients were brought to the plate half way through eating. The wine was great an my food was very good, however other dishes were average. We were all most surprised that this restaurant boasts a Michelin star

“Very good until it lasts”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

I have eaten many times here both in the gourmet restaurant downstairs and in the wine bar upstairs. Alfredo Chiocchetti, the chef, is a veteran, a lesser known and perhaps underappreciated master of Italian cuisine, who even trained the great Alajmo in his youth, and who delivers dishes of excellent conception and technique, to be enjoyed in a charming 'cellar'.

He won't go on forever, though, and I wonder what will become of this place once he's gone. The manager is singularly hapless, and service is only held together by the excellent sommelier Franco, who also won't be there forerever. I'd say, enjoy Scrigno 'downstairs' now, it's a unique place for Italian cuisine, and who knows what the future will bring. The wine bar upstairs has a winnning formula of nice and original simple dishes and drinks at sympathetic prices, and long may it continue.

“Fantastic restaurant”

Appetizer were OK. We have dinner in the cave! Beautiful and Suggestive! The most charming restaurant in the center of Trento with old stoned walls.

“Don't miss it”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

It is a pity there is only one entry for the Scrigno del Duomo, as there are in fact two restaurants here, an easy going yet smart wine bar upstairs, and a Michelin starred fine dining restaurant downstairs. I've eaten in both several times, and find them both excellent. The wine bar is fantastic for a quick yet very satisfying eat: a lot of inventive salads are on offer, all with distinct, freash flavours, as well as other dishes and an excellent choice of wines by the glass, which makes the mixed cold cuts/cheese platters an attractive proposition to accompany your wine. Prices are very honest for this quality of cooking and ingredients.

Downstairs the food is extremely good, though of course prices are much higher, but still in line with the fine dining offering.
