Very beautiful and interesting gardens, very well laid-out, well-balanced and well-maintained (by a crew of some 30 full-time gardeners). A must see for garden lovers. In every season some flowers or trees will be blossoming. This was end-of-September-time, next time we should probably come back in the spring. Several interesting view points have been created, overlooking the larger area. Be prepared for some hiking and climbing stairs. We recommend to arrive early (opening is at 9.00 am) otherwise it gets very crowdy. We also recommend the small guided tour through the gardens. There is a restaurant for lunch. In the castel itself is always some exhibit to wander through, this time about the history of mountain pass roads and early tourism. Will be back again.

Started just 25 years ago, the gardens are amazingly mature and varied. It’s more a hillside set of paths than the level gardens of a Capetown or Victoria, so a bit of a challenge for those with difficulty walking. The grooming, labelling and variety are wonderful. A good hike out of town, or a bus ride.

What a fantastic place. Incredibly well curated. You could spend hours in this place and not get bored. The view from the viewing platform is amazing. Lakes, lillies and restaurants.

An amazing garden, with an amazing view all around it, there is a lot to see here, and there are several places where you can sit and relax with a drink and a snack.

It's worth getting to the top sections of the garden, to enjoy the views - there is a platform, too. Look out for the parrots.

Beautiful setting and the gardens are 1st class. We'll laid out into different areas of interest and themes. The areas are clearly signposted with nice paved walkways. It's vast and a bit hilly in places so if you have difficulty walking then you may not get to see everything. We had lunch in the lower cafe by the lake and it was very nice, we had simple lunch of ham and melon with bread and it was really reasonable.
We did go in the castle which had a travel exhibition on, we enjoyed it.

We spent over three hours here in June. There are regular buses from the town centre to the gardens. The ticket prices are reasonable considering the size of the gardens. There is a huge variety of different themed gardens. All signs are in German, Italian and English. You can climb up to a viewing platform that has great views over the gardens and the surrounding area. The cafe by the pond is quite good but isn't particularly big so there could be a wait for tables in high season.
Make sure you don't miss the iguana in the glasshouse!
