“An average place.”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Weizen beer was not cold enough. Pizza was okay, not great. Pasta was of no taste; but of huge quantity. Lots of carbs. Service was good though. Staff was warm, smiley and helpful. Considering the so-so food quality of this town, this pizzeria was acceptable.

“Felt Like Family”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

My wife and I stayed 5 nights in Castelrotto in late September. Weather perfect and walking even better. Is there a more scenic spot on earth than the Dolomites? I think not. Our gasthoff did not serve evening meals so we wandered down to the main part of town. Not many restaurants open and we picked Cafe Bachler. Not very interesting from the street but inside it opens up into a spacious restaurant with a magnificent terrace. Tried Wiener Schnitzel for first time in years and it was delicious. Generous helping, salad bar, and two veg. Roasted potatoes extra but worth the money.Washed it down with an excellent house wine. All for under thirty euros. It was a Thursday night and after a while a duo of accordion and guitar set up and commenced entertaining what I presumed was a bunch of locals on the glassed in terrace. It was a hoot. Jolly singalong numbers with much thigh slapping. Served by an attractive waitress dressed like the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and a severe young man also dressed in black. So impressed we returned the following night for wood fired pizzas. Even better than the schnitzel. Rolled home full. Decided we would return for our other three nights. By now had gotten to know the staff. Turns out the accordion player was the owner and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" his daughter. Our severe young waiter, Alain, tried his English on us and became more laid back. Greta, the daughter, had little English but tried hard and was a great hostess. Night four she treated us to complimentary schnapps and our last night complimentary home made strudel. Can't speak too highly of the establishment or of Castelrotto (Kastelruth in German). The highlight of a six week car touring holiday. Would love to return in winter for the skiing.

“Delightful evening!”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

We came to this restaurant primarily to hear the music performed by the duo we heard by chance at the restaurant at the top of the Marinzen ski lift in Castelrotto. They perform on Mondays and Thursdays in the restaurant. There was full a roomful of diners when we arrived about 7 pm but we had no difficulty finding a place to sit as they have a lovely outdoor terrace in addition to the indoor seating. We both had their flavorful noodle soup. The pizza was delicious and hubby had a pasta with ham. In cooler weather they have heaters on the covered terrace.

“Cozy and accomodating”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We've been to this place 5 times and haven't been disappointed yet, be it pasta, pizza or meat dishes. The service is anything but snobbish. The waitress recognized us after 2 years and welcomed us cordially. The Tirolian band is an amusing experience to foreigners and highly acknowledged by the locals for their songs about life in their "heimat". Lovely place.

“convenient and reliable”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

We have made a habit of getting pizza and salad here when we arrive at Kastelruth. It's always satisfied us with good food, location and terrace view.
