There's no IHG hotel in Bolzano so my back-up group is Sheraton.

But this hotel does not make me want to change loyalty. A small town hotel with small town attitudes. The staff were not helpful and somehow looked down their noses.

And the location as given on the website is misleading. It's seriously out of town. Next to the conference centre. Where music concerts are performed. Sleep came slowly.

And the hotel smelled. Of the 'drains'.

Room Tip: Stay in another hotel.

Went to the coffee bar for some breakfast. Nice and corteous people. BUT: the sandwich I ordered was populated by a small snail. Not very enticing. And the only compensation: i did not have to pay the sandwich. Guess it would have been more appropriate to offer the entire coffee and brioche and breakfast.....l

Overall: be aware and double check everything before you eat!:-)

Stayed here for 2 nights. I will say the positives in that it was clean and was a "normal" Sheraton. Here is where they fall way short:
20 Euro for parking in garage-way too much as hotel isn't even located in the city, but an industrial zone. This charge is "highway robbery"!
Wifi in lobby isn't controlled by Sheraton, but a private company and it charges 5 euros for 37 minutes. iPad users can't use the hotel system in room as it only has cable and not wifi in rooms. It is a reasonable 8 euro per day for internet in the room if you have a computer.
Slowest elevators, I waited and waited and...
You need a car of course to stay here otherwise you are stuck near the highway as the town of Bolzano is 3-4 miles or so away.
My advice is to stay in Merano, a jewel of a place only 15 miles northwest of Bolzano. It has a great Spa and many hotels. One I can say to go to is the Hotel Terme Merano.

Overall stay was very good. Very nice front desk people and housekeepers. All people are very kind. Good price. And very nice cocktails parties every night.
Only concern is breakfast. It's expensive and awful. Poor quality. You have to improve the quality of your breakfast because for 15 euros you must provide a better service. Coffee is low quality, fruit juices are fakes ... that's not the service we expect for this brand.

Stayed there for two nights prior to Easter Weekend in 2012. We booked using my wife's platinum account at a discounted rate. The bookings were made individually, one for the first night, one for the second night since we changed our plans at short notice.

Arrived at 9pm and checked-in. That triggered the first lengthy discussion with the lady at the front desk since the rate we booked showed up as for only 1 person in their system. Our confirmed rate was EUR 100 and we were told for the second person, there will be a surcharge of EUR 60 per night. The lady was very friendly and extremely helpful and she sorted it all out in the end so that we did not have to pay any surcharge (which was also confirmed like this). The second surprise was that they have their own SPG platinum practice; the welcome gift is looked at like a trade-off option between the usual token and the breakfast which is included anyway for SPG platinum. Also that was sorted out by the very friendly staff at front desk. The processes are a mess in their system but their friendly staff always manages to get things right. Leaves a bad taste nevertheless ....

We got a nice suite which was perfectly ok. Modern and offers anything you need. Small remark: mineral water was missing and some bathroom amenities were not there as well. Also that was sorted out in remarkable manner with the lobby bar who gave us two free bottles of water. Again, well done by the staff but a total mess in terms of the overall process.

Housekeeping: needs improvement. Had to ring one day at 6pm. Staff again made it happen. Then, housekeeping did not refill properly and also on the 2nd day, no water in the room.

Internet: this is not tolerable. There is no wireless in the rooms (only cable) and the wireless in the lobby is hosted by an external provider. That is a clear no-go and needs to be fixed immediately. I do not recall having stayed at a no WiFi zone in a SPG property for years.

Breakfast: On the first morning, we went to the breakfast room and helped oursevles at the buffet. After finishing, a friendly staff member showed up and asked us if we had been notified of the SPG platinum special breakfast. We were not, since the terms of the program clearly state that breakfast for this tier is included. We were then told we should mention tomorrow, since they have a special breakfast for us. Did not sound very promising to be honest. So on day two, we get a croissant, a coffee, some cereals and a yogurt. Picture attached. Clearly not what you expect to receive as a most valued guest. We could also sense that the staff was embarrased.

All in all: nice place with great spacious modern rooms. Very friendly and proactive staff that manages to solve all the problems. We suspect local management is trying to be smart and run their own show until somebody notices or they just want to save money. Of course, the ones suffering are the guests and staff. I think this place needs better (other) management because everybody deserves it.

Would go there again because I know whatever happens, staff will sort it out for me.
