“Excellent Bolzano hotel”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Everything about this hotel was true 4 * quality. The rooms are very large (we stayed twice within a weeks time, before and after driving through the Dolomites). The breakfast was extensive and delicious. Everything in the hotel was new and modern. The front desk employees spoke excellent English and were very helpful. They were in the process of upgrading the WIFi system and while it worked fine in our first room it did not get a strong signal in the second room. When we told them of the problem and that it was important that we have computer access that night, they sent someone to the room to install a router to assure we had a strong signal. That's service! The hotel is located around the corner from the main square, a very convenient location and an easy walk from the train station.

Our entire experience was just excellent. They have the best breakfast buffet ever; locally sourced and beautifully presented. Helpful and friendly staff.

We were just there one night (should have stayed two), in room 203. That's one of the "comfort" rooms, which had ample space and amenities. I loved the original art decorating the room, it's such a refreshing change from mass-produced art displayed in other hotels.

Came into town without a reservation and walked into the hotel. Extremely friendly and courteous management. Directed us on where and how to park our car (free underground parking attached to the hotel). Afterwards, gave us an upgrade. Numerous times the front desk marked on a city map where to buy, where to eat, etc. Room was clean. Breakfast might have been the best I had on the trip.

This is a very nice hotel in the centre of town, in fact in the main square. The price is high but unless you stay in a guest house or apartment the hotels are expensive. I found that the staff could be more helpful especially in the restaurant on the square. The rooms are fine and clean. It is true that no one helps with the luggage but this happens all the time in Italy. We did not have breakfast in the hotel as it is easier to go out and have something on the way. Bolzano is a beautiful city and is very organized with buses etc so the centrality of the hotel is good.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the square if you want an excellent view. Higher floors are probably quieter as th...

Dear Miss Susi,

Thank you for your comment on TripAdvisor. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you rated our hotel with 4 points of 5.

Regarding the restaurant “Walthers” on the square I have to point out that it does not form part of the Greif. We are not responsible for the running of this establishment and therefore we cannot intervene in the quality of the service. Usually our guests have lunch or dinner at the Restaurant Laurin, which is in our sister hotel Laurin, just a few steps around the corner from the Greif.

You mention that you did not receive any help with your luggage. Guests who park their car in the public parking lot in the basement of the hotel generally ask prior to checking-in for any help required. We would have been only too happy to have assisted. Our principle priority is to always to try to fulfil every wish of our guests and to please them with our personal style of hospitality.

This personal style of hospitality finds its expression particularly in the daily breakfast.
Homemade pastry, fresh squeezed fruit juices and a wide choice of regional products makes it a highlight for any start to the day.

We wish to welcome you back in the future and to demonstrate the hospitality we seek to positively engage all clients with.

Kind regards,
Doris Gotter

Fantastic hotel. Staff really seemed to want us to enjoy our stay and sorted out a possible problem instantly and with great charm. Great location, huge room. Very quiet. Spotlessly clean. Masses of toiletries. Amazing breakfast. And we had no problems with the Wifi.Bolzano is a brilliant city.

It is our third visit to this hotel ( we use it as a transit destination) and we had the same issues: no one to help with the luggage ( you have to bring them on your own from the parking lot), extra breakfast cost for our 9 year old ( (25 euros for a pancake which was an omelette with sugar on it), we had to call the reception to bring us one more shampoo ( only 1 shampoo and 1 shower gel available), very poor breakfast, very bad mattresses ........The big rooms and the great location are the only good things to mention about this hotel...... The manager must improve the quality of the services the hotel offer, otherwise it's perfect location is not going to be taken in consideration anymore.

Room Tip: The rooms are big, lean.....try not to get the one opposite breakfast .......

Dear Miss Izabela,
I would like to thank you for choosing our hotel in the centre of Bolzano as a transit destination and to have returned for a third time.
Regarding your observations about the quality of our service and hotel offer, please allow me to take the opportunity to analyse your review step by step:
No help with the luggage: Guests who park their car in the public parking lot in the basement of the hotel generally ask prior to checking-in for any help required. We would have been only happy to have assisted.
Extra breakfast cost for our 9-year-old child: The supplement of € 25 is not regarding the breakfast but a charge applied for a third person in the room. Initially it seems you booked for two persons rather than three and on arrival and being informed we gave you a free upgrade to a bigger superior room. Furthermore, we calculated only € 25 instead of € 40, which would be the normal amount for children from 6 to 12 years of age. We would like to point out that many of our guests appreciate us as a child friendly hotel – with no charge being applied to youngsters under 3 years of age.
More Shampoo: Unfortunately as we were not aware of the third person requirement at the time of booking we had to arrange the third bed in as short a time as possible after your arrival. The shampoo and shower gel were brought up to you by our reception staff immediately after your request.
Poor breakfast: We are very pleased, that also this year the TripAdvisor clients rated us as the best hotel in town. Most of the positive recommendations mention our breakfast offer as a much appreciated item – with homemade pastry, jams, fresh fruit, as well as friendly service by our staff.
We would like to underline again, that we really regret that you did not fully enjoy you stay with us. Our principle priority is to always try to fulfil every wish of our guests and to please them with our personal style of hospitality. This is borne out as a positive factor by many of the reviews we receive describing our staff as very friendly, attentive, and cooperative. Unfortunately in your particular instance all did not work out as we would have hoped. We hope to have an opportunity in the future to welcome you back and to demonstrate the hospitality we seek to positively engage all clients with.
Kind regards,
Sabrina Schenk

The Greif Hotel in Bolzano Italy is a wonderful, relaxing destination. It has a very nice restaurant, and the rooms are fairly large and quiet, as well as being well appointed. Really, Balzano is the gateway to the Dolomites, and is a lovely city. When you're there, be certain to see "Otzie" the 5,000 year old frozen man, found in the mountains between Italy and Austria.
