“Bad day in the kitchen. Maybe we were simply unlucky...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

Let me start by saying that the atmosphere is typical of their surrounds and their culture: it is simply great and it's worth a visit at least to take a look at the halls of tge resturant and the staircade that take you to the front door .

The resturamt itself and its personell very nice pleasant and it gets packed an busy pretty quick.

Just because of that despite my overall rate of 2/5 , it deserves a comment by thanking already to allow that to be posted.

There's a good section between typical canteen food and pizzas. Well, i've tried to stick to local food and dishes whenever i can and this time was not exception. So, while ordering a Lasagna as first course, wr then had a Brasato to follow as a second course.

Unfortunately last week end muat have been a very unlucky one for the chef. Despite a good presentation for both lasagne e brasato, the taste was not at the same level as it looked like.

Lasagna pasta layera felt in your mouth like being re-heated, being soft but chewy while the ragu terribly hot too creamy. But somehow that lasagna could have been tasty for others, so my opinion on it wasnt catastrophic, as we managed to finish it in two.

Unfortunately, what let us down was Il Brasato. I dont want to do a conparition with other somewhere else , but i can only suggest to remove it from their menu list. Iit was neither the chef who ruined the dish nor te suppiier to provide the beef, but both.

No consistency, no taste, slices of mert covered by ao called bbq/tomato juice served with anonymous potato balls on a side.

Now, i can go beyond the fact that Il Brasato wasnt coming with its typical beef chops falling apart while being gently touched with the fork. Again, i can also go over the fact that the juice that the brasato was served with wasnt the same as u normally have by cooking for hours all the ingredients and pour it after and on top giving a delicate and tasty juice that was definetely missing in this dish, BUT the Meat itself was simply awful and diagusted. While clean it out from the tomato jiuce covering it up, the meet was rough and tough, full of nerves, improssible to chew and to swallow. Very bad dish!!!

I couldnt resist but share the comment to the manager and the waitress who were kind enough to first suggest a top dish to be replaced it with to then not let me pay for it.

It could have been an unlucky day , but the rate on the food cant be any good while underling anyway how good qas all the rest... But unfortunately, i go out 2 dine mostly whenever i'm hungry and wanted to enjoy my food an evening.

I wont miss to give it another try to be able to review , reverse and change my opinion to the best for its food.

Ciao

Epi

“The ONLY real Italian restaurant in Bolzano”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

Bolzano, do not make a mistake is more austrian or german than Italian. In every restaurant you go portions are huuuge. Most normal people would not even manage to eat a full starter-dish.

Also, in al Torchia, protions are big, but here you can feel the original Italian warmth and can you order without being afraid some housewine of very good quality. We enjoyed it soi much here that we went back 4 times. They have a large choice of pizzas, but also their home made pasta's and bistecca are of very good quality.

Make sure you make a reservation, because the restauant is overy day full with locals (can you blame them?)

“Great place but MAKE RESERVATION!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2010

What a great Italian restaurant! Excellent food, atmosphere, service and price. Thursday night, full house, make your reservation first. We say at least 30 people turned away due to lack of reservation.

Many good restaurants in Bozen but this one is worthwhile to try.

The location is on 2nd floor of building and can be difficult to find. See photos attached.
