Owner description: Designed in 1564 by Vitozzi. It's lined with porticoes and is the real heart of the city: here and hereabouts stand the great buildings that have witnessed the development of the city, from the ancient Roman era to our days. In the middle of the square stands Palazzo Madama and on the side you could see The Royal Theatre, The Royal Palace , the Royal Library (that houses Leonardo da Vinci 's operas). In Piazza Castello (The Castle Square) begin the most important central streets, like Rome Street, Po Street, Garibaldi Street and Pietro Micca Street.

“Central Hub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012

With the old castle/palace, and the bus terminus on the one side, and on the other the imposing facades of the Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama, the wide open space, the simple water fountains, the dome of the San Lorenzo church, the bustling entrance to the pedestrian-only via Garibaldi, and the view all the way down the Via Roma to the facade of the Stazione Porta Nuova, this feels like the live hub of the city.

“Turin”

This square seemed like it had so many locals zipping through it, there were these wonderful little lanes - exits which you needed to explore through and around the castle.
