“Perfect!!!”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Tomato's is one of the best hotel/hostel I've ever stayed in. All the staff I came across during my stay were wonderful.

One of them gave us recommendations for lunch & dinner, which turned out to be the best lunch (Teapot) & dinner (Coco's) we had in Turin. Thank you sooooooo much!!!

We failed to notice the early check-out note but the staff were very accommodating/understanding with a late payment.

PROS:
- Very friendly & helpful staff.
- Spacious rooms & bathrooms (double bed with private ensuite)
- Cleanliness. The whole place looks bright, new and spotless.
- Great location. 7 mins to train station. 1 min to bus stop. Market & supermarket nearby.
- Strong WiFi. Free PC use at common area.
- Laundry room. $5 for wash & dry. Staff will switch on dryer once washing is done.
- Lounge room & kitchen.
- Information everywhere. Blackboards with sights & restaurant recommendations. Informative staff.

CONS:
- None. This place is perfect.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
- STAY HERE!!! There is nothing bad that I can say about this place.
- There is a market & supermarket around the corner if you wish to cook your own meals.

Tomato is just perfect for anybody coming to Turin and wishing to stay somewhere close to the railway station and the city centre for a reasonable price. It's really simple - the furniture comes mostly from IKEA, - but lively decorated with a great deal of humour. The inscription on the wall, 'Please don't play hockey during the night,' made me smile every time I looked on it :)

They don't offer breakfast here, but there's free tea and coffee on the ground floor and a lot of nice cafes in the vicinity. Besides, just a 20-minute walk from here, and you can enjoy your morning coffee in the Piazza San Carlo :)

The staff deserves a special praise: Tom and Annalisa are just wonderful, so friendly and always happy to help with just about anything!

The only fly in the ointment is that it can be rather cold at night in the rooms, but then, you can just ask for an extra blanket :)

I would highly recommend this hostel! It is very clean, spacious, and in a great neighborhood. If you are a young traveler or a young couple this is a great spot! There are lots of great restaurants close by and is only about a 20 minute walk to the main sights of Turin. Tom is also very friendly and helpful! Don't have anything negative to say :)

Well how to describe a very nice stay with not overdoing it or seeming to get payed by the owner, which at last make no sense because I payed to stay sooo.... Nevermind. We all have some expectation during travel, influenced by various sources like friends, movies, advertisement and so on. Well in my personal imagination Italy should be full of tidy Streets, noisy neighbours and formost a lot of very emtional driven people. So after my stay I have to rearrange this Image a little bit. (Please always keep in mind that I am an European from Austria and therefore comparing Turin and the Hostel with this particular Background :)).

I arrived (by car) and found my expected small streets and lets say, very colorful and creative ways of handling trafic. But that is not really a big problem, as always it is the most easy way to "go with the flow" and always keep in mind, that honking is a way to comunicate and not to rage ;). Because of my particular form of traveling I had to handle the most important question to any car owner; where can I park my car and don't worry dents, scratches,... Well, when you stay at the Tomato Backpackers Hotel, this is no Problem if you just reserve a Space for €5,- a night you get a place right in front of the Hostel which is also guarded by cameras :).

And just a note on the side, when you park your car within a blue line, right head to the nearest parking machine and get a ticket, also leave no valuable things visible in the car. This is the point where i deffinetly need a cloaking devise :-P. But as always just use your brain then you should never be surprised by a lockpicked or stolen car.

So right after the very friendly check in, we got to our Room (3 Beds) on the second floor, the room itself is quite big, toilet and shower inkluded (where the shower is a little small compared to the room, but I am kind of a chunky guy so enough room to get clean ;)). The view was directly into the back yard and a little Balcony goes around one quarter of the Block, so it is very easy to get in touch with your neighbours when you travel with friends or want to get to know more nice people (which you really should, every time you can!).

Included is a small breakfast (Nescoffee, Tea, Bisquits, Orange Juice, marmelade) simple but nice, when you want to go the extra mile (not litterally, it is almost 300 meters) there is a lovely little café down the street called TEAPOT which gives a discount to the guests of the Tomato :).

Besides the already mentioned Breakfast the Hostel offers a kitchen where you can prepare your own food, washing machine to wash your dirty clothes maybe while you preparin your food but thats up to you...
There is also a small bar where you can get beer, coffeee,... Everything you need to drink in between for very reasonable prices (Espresso €0,80; Beer 0,33l..€1,50 0,5l..€2,50;...) there is also a small library with variuos City guides inkuding 'Babies' and 'Windows 95' ...Ya good old times... and free library of interchangeable books left by other Backpackers.
Ohhh almost forgot, you also can rent Bikes and buy tickets for the public transportation.

Smoking is prohibited within the Building, but they have a very nice Backyard with a nice linnen pavillon where you can enjoy your cigar, cigarette,...

For the summary;
It was a very pleasant stay with very nice people and a great experience for me. Turin and the Tomato Backpackers Hotel fulfilled all my expectations and topped them with a lot of friendlyness and a very heartly ambience.

So please if you consder to travel through Italy, give Turin and the Tomato a Visit!

We stayed at Tomato for 2 weeks, and had a wonderful experience. Tom, Annalise, and Ben who run Tomato are just amazing. They make you feel so welcome, will do anything for you. Their knowledge of the local area, Turin and Italy helped us immensely. The hotel is more than a backpackers, each room is of a good size and comes with its own ensuite. The hotel is situated in an up and coming area, with retail, markets and cafes/restaurants all around. So you can cater to what ever budget you have. If we are ever back in Turin, we will stay at Tomato gain.
