It is worth staying at this very cute little hostel. The staff is friendly and available, the location is very convenient. As it is very recent everything is modern and clean
I had a great time and hope to go back.

We stayed in Turin for 10 nights and found the staff so accommodating and helpful, they made our stay even better. The rooms are big, with all that you need for a comfortable stay, best of all the bathroom was even a great size. The location is good if coming in by train as we walked there with bags and it was only about 5mins away. We found the common room excellent for meeting our friends and other people from the Masters Games, so we could catch up and have a drink. Would stay there again if we ever go back.

I am writing this review in English in order to best express my overwhelming positive sentiments to the hospitable proprietors of the Tomato hostel.

I suffered a broken ankle before my arrival, and the staff was remarkably accommodating. They carried my bags, called for transportation when I needed it, and even provided me with a private room at an absurdly good price when plans at a neighboring hostel fell through.

The Tomato is clean; it is quiet; and yet, is also incredibly warm and friendly.

If youre staying in Torino, stay at the Tomato. You're not going to find a better hostel anywhere else.

Alla prossima bella analuisa, tomasso, e bengi!

I was concerned about finding an affordable, convenient hotel in Turin. I stumbled upon the Tomato Backpacker's Hotel and read other reviews of it on Trip Advisor. The property is run by Tomasso (Tom) and his staff. All are earnest 30-somthings trying to make a real go of the property which - as a historically old structure - has a few quirks. The property isn't really a hotel, and it isn't really a hostel, but rather a mix of both. It is rather like staying with friends but with your own private room/bath. The courtyard side is quieter than the street side and there is an elevator for when you first arrive with luggage. There are many amenities, laundry, bikes to rent, a huge selection of travel books and a sort of sitting room where you can read or interact as you choose. The desk is not staffed 24/7 however, so we were lucky to pay upon arrival because of a needed early departure. San Salvario is a wonderful community. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops bars etc. My Italian family was worried when they heard I was staying there because about 5 or 10 years ago the neighborhood was not so nice. However, it has really turned around and is a wonderful mixed community of local folks. Best coffee in Turin is around the corner on via Madama Cristina. Had best pizza and best desert of our whole trip in this neighborhood. Overall would recommend. Be patient with Toma and the staff - they are trying really hard and will do their best to make this a good experience for you.

Room Tip: Ask for the courtyard side if noise bothers you as the city wakes up.

Accidentally we booked this hotel for the wrong date but on arrival the staff were incredibly helpful and managed to give us a room even though they seemed to be quite busy. The hotel itself was great, the rooms were spotless and the communal space was clean and tidy too. We loved the owner and he helped us with every request we had. The rooms were very spacious and there was a lot of communal space too however the kitchen wasn't very big but perfectly adequate to cook a light meal. The location was fairly central and in a very good area near the Valentino park. Amazing value! Overall a very enjoyable stay - would definitely return.

Stayed there 2 nights, this is a clean, welcoming, well-located hostel with very friendly staff. The service provided is not one of a 4* hotel, but for its very affordable price you get fresh linen and towels, a light breakfast, wifi, which is basically all that you need when you choose to stay at a hostel! I'd definitely recommend it.
