A Very Good Choice

Review of Le Petit Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 21, 2007
My wife and I stayed for five nights in the middle of September, and it was a good choice. The room - facing the interior court - was clean and comfortable. Room service was good, though the dated small shower compartment tended to leak. Front desk service was friendly and efficient, and willing to work with language challenges. Good location, and excellent restaurant attached.

I loved this hotel! The price is quite reasonable and it has a great location. Everything is within walking distance. Just around the corner is a market where you can buy snacks, wine, and laundry detergent. We were on the 4th floor and our room had a view out onto their courtyard. It was lovely. The rooms were clean and the staff spoke perfect English. Internet access is expensive (5 euro for an hour). A phone card that gives you 2 hours of talk time costs the same! The breakfasts were not the best....very warm yogert and pathetic coffee. However, there is a mini frig and table with chairs in the room. So if you visit the market you can stock up on good breakfast food.

Hotel has simple rooms but clean and adequate. We had a room facing the street and it was very loud when the window is open. So, i would suggest to ask for a room facing inside. Breakfast was ok - simple continental style buffet. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. No parking on the street but there is a garage parking 2 min walk for 20 euros/24 hours.

Location is excellent. Very central. There is an excellent restaurant around the corner - Osteria ArcanoMatto - Via Pierto Micca, 17/B. There is also Brek - italian restaurant chain - a block away. Very good for lunch.

I would recommend this hotel i you are looking for a short stay of few days.

We arrived at the hotel around 8:00 pm that evening. The desk clerk that was on duty at that time told us the hotel parking was full, and we would have to unload our luggage in front , but had to move the car 10 minutes away to park in a gaurded parking lot. We made two trips up to the room and returned to find a new night clerk out in front banging is fist on the hood of our car , yelling in Italian. He did not speak any English. We tried to explain what the other desk clerk told us. We were very upset after that. We left to park the car and get some dinner. I had to go back to the hotel to get my wife's jacket. When I asked for the key to the room, he made me write the number on paper then gave me the key and yelled at me in Italian all the way to the elevator. When I came back down, same thing, he yelled at me again. We spent 16 days in Europe and this was the only bad hotel we had. The room was very small and hot. It cost us $165.00 to get this type of treatment. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to any one.

Le Petit Hotel, Via San Francesco d'Assisi n. 21, 10121 Torino, Italy

(---)

Visited Torino, Italy in late October for the "Slow Foods" conference and exhibition. Stayed five nights at Le Petit Hotel and thoroughly delighted with the whole experience. This is a reasonably priced, three star rated hotel that was as clean as a whistle, with everything in good working order, ideally located in downtown Torino within walking distance of all the major attractions. Our room was a double (meaning two single beds) with a miniature balcony overlooking a quiet little interior courtyard. There was just enough room to seat two of us for a breath of fresh air. But the best thing of all, was the effort of the hotel staff to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They were all thoroughly pleasant and invariably helpful.

For dinner try the "Ristorante Pizzeria Marechiaro" right next door at Via San Francesco d'Assisi, 21 (---). This is a fantastic medium price range restaurant that offers a 15% discount to guests of Le Petit Hotel. It is a small, casual, colourful restaurant with tables inside and out. Enjoyed many authentic dishes, and would particularly recommend the Steamed Grilled Fish and the Pasta Carbonara, both superb.

we stayed there 1 night Aug06

Torino itself was a disappointment--city looked a bit run down and we would not return

The Le Petit Hotel itself was fine--right downtown--most parking is on the street-free

What really impressed us was the excellent pizza served by the restaurant next door---best pizza we have ever had bar none

We walked about 100yds to a little square and came across a singles group dancing the fox trot in the open air--at 10:30pm on a Wed night---it was like parents without partners dancing to a fox trot in serious mode instead of al martino ballads
