Owner description: The complex of vineyard and gardens was built at the beginning of the seventeenth century, on the model of the Roman villas, by Prince Cardinal Maurizio di Savoia. After his death (1657) there followed decoration campaigns for the wife Ludovica and, at the end of the century, for Anna d'Orleans, the wife of Vittorio Amedeo II, Duke of Savoy. The apartments and gardens of the Villa, referred to as those "of the Queen" after the Duke of Savoy took the royal title in 1713, were modernised by Filippo Juvarra for Carlo Emanuele III. In the middle of the eighteenth century stables and service buildings were put up. In 1865 Vittorio Emanuele II gave the residence to a female school (Istituto Nazionale per le Figlie dei Militari Italiani), which was active until 1975. Since 1994 restoration work have been carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The Villa has been open to the public since 2006.

A very lovely place to visit. A very quiet location and beautiful view of the city from top of the hill.
A good place away from the city yet so near. After an hectic week at work, a few hours at this place will sure help you clam down. I wish I could have seen this place at its full grandeur.

This lovely villa sits on a hill of above Turin. The inside was being restored during my visit and you can see that work is being done to restore it (I hope). It still needs a lot of work though (almost all the statues on the front fountain were headless). It has lovely landscaping in the back and has great views the city and Alps. It was easy to get to also (took a bus from City Center and walked up the hill). I would recommend going early in the morning.

Inspired by Roman villas (Villa d'Este among others), this magnificent villa is set on a hill that overlooks Turin and the Alps.
Despite having being bombed in WWII, the villa has been recently restored and regained part of its past glory. The extraordinary main hall with its trompe l'oeil frescoes gives an excellent idea of what a XVIIth century villa looked like. Few rooms are displaying wonderful baroque settings and the views on the gardens are just magnificent. The garden itself is small and like an amphitheater arround the villa, punctuate by 3 "follies" i.e small pavillons in the Renaissance/Baroque taste.
I believe it would be a pity to spend time in Turin without visiting this unique place.
