“Very good - could be better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2011

This is my 3rd thrip to Turin in as many months (traveling primarily for business) and have always stayed in the same general area (near Porta Nuova train station and Via Roma). Whereas this is certainly an impressive hotel and the lobby and inner courtyard are nice, the "reading library" has an old-world charm and overall provide relaxing places to sit and converse with co-travelers, I would not rank it as highly as the Golden Palace, which until recently was part of the same hotel management (THI).

As a solo, or even couple traveling, the standard room at Sitea is just too small. I don't spend time in the lobby other than to get in/out of the hotel, so the size of the room and bathroom are more inmportant to me. My bathroom at Sitea is also rather compact ...The toilet is ticked behind the bathroom door and I have to close the door to get to the toilet, for example.

The breakfast fare was pretty typical but nothing special for this class of hotel and the fitness room is, as a previous reviewer noted, not much to speak of, just a 3-4 machines in a converted room.

In summary, there are lots of nice things here - but probably better for larger groups or people that enjoy the experience of the lobby and common areas. Granted, I didn;t have a "superior" room or a suite, but for the single or couple traveler, I'd rather stay at the Golden Palace for similar money (nice gym, small indoor pool, quieter) - or even the Holiday Inn (bigger room, not as good breakfast, cheaper) and save money for meals and other attractions.

The Sitea is well located, on a pedestrian street in the heart of old Turin. The property appears to have been recently renovated, and the rooms and bathrooms reflect this. The staff were friendly, courteous, and helpful; they went out of their way to make our short stay memorable. The turtles in the breakfast sit-out area were a welcome touch; it seems some of them are 50+ years old! The only negative was a convention/seminar feel - indeed there were two or three business groups floating about. This feel carried over into the breakfast setting which felt large and impersonal as a result. "Charming", "romantic", and "cozy" this is not, but it doesn't aspire to be.

In all, a solid place to stay and - at Eur 240 for a massive room - excellent value for money.

Having made a last minute change in schedule to include Torino, and basing the booking on Tripadvisor comments, there is no question that the Grand Hotel Sitea deserves the number one slot in town. it is a genuine version of a classic, Italian luxury hotel, lacking nothing. beautiful, ample, well furnished rooms, superb bedding, linens and towels, spotlessly clean. the staff is friendly, informed, ready to assist when necessary. the breakfast is very complete, including hot dishes, fresh juice, wide variety of breads and pastries, cold meats, fruits etc.

the location is equally good, in the heart of the city, where you can easily walk to almost all museums, churches and other monuments. Torino is an elegant, classy city, filled with cafes, luxury shops, and the interesting little businesses and stores that are part of traditional Italy that one should notice while they are still around. i highly recommend a visit to Torino, especially if you have time to visit some of the nearby alpine areas.

we found the Sitea to be a good value for the price, compared with many primary cities where a luxury hotel costs a huge amount these days. our compliments to the hotel for providing every bit of value and quality.

final tip: just around the corner on the Via Cavour, the Andrea Perino bakery and cafe is a great place to visit. fresh and delicious breads, pastries and pizzas coming out of the ovens all day long. walk past the street entrance to the back and find a delightful cafe area with top quality cappucinos for 1.30 euros, very cheap for Italy. great place for a light or quick meal.

The hotel is located in a great spot near shopping and sights in Turin, which was the best thing about it on our minds. The only issue was we heard a great deal of noise in our room (perhaps from the pipes or elevator nearby) but it wasn't too bad! The room itself was large and very nice...as was the staff who were friendly. If you come with your rental car, be aware that right now the street the hotel is on is totally torn up with construction, so it's a bit difficult to drop your bags/check-in with your car...you just need to park around the corner! I would recommend this hotel based on the great location alone!

Classical decor, large and clean room, good service and excellent breakfast (but do not expect a large variety of warm food) in an elegant room, very nice and warm atmosphere. Very good location to visit Turin. I am definitely going back.

An unassuming entrance (a few metres off Via Cavour) leads into a delightful lobby with first-class reception staff. On arrival we were unexpectedly upgraded to a junior suite; this was sumptuous although the bathroom was disproportionately small. The corridors and common areas were beautifully maintained. The buffet breakfasts were good with decent coffee served at the table. Before heading for the galleries, it is worth buying a Torino card for 22 Euros each available at one of the Tourist offices;this will give 'free' access to the galleries and palazzi. We enjoyed the Museo Accorsi on Via Po 55, Accademia Albertina, Palazzo Madama and Galleria Sabauda. The Modern Art Museum was disappointing. The motor museum was closed for renovation; check with the Tourist Ofiice. The Borgo Medievale is worth the walk especially on the riverside path. The Hotel recommended a great trattoria for dinner called Perbacco on Via Mazzini 31; before taking your order, the proprietor Roberto will sit at the table to discuss the menu and wines. The 3 days visit to Turin at the Grand Sitea was a resounding success.
