Food heaven! A "food court' with counter-eating or sit-down choices interspersed with a visual and gustatory grocery smorgasbord of photogenic produce, seafood, meats, prepared and packaged foods, and gift items for take-home purchase - all Italian! Even online resources to research products, spices, herbs. I felt a little foolish enjoying food shopping so much, but it was a memorable treat to nibble, shop, research, nibble, shop... I'll return to Eataly when I visit Torino again!

When my husband and I passed "Eataly" (in Lingotto, Turin), we thought it was a restaurant but when we went inside it was so much more. Our hotel was located across the street and we visited there many times. We found that it was a collection of small shops and restaurants. We loved all the food we ordered in a number of restaurants. We had occasion to purchase some amazing almonds to take out and the gelato has to be among the best in the world. The "slow food" movement began here and many chefs offer classes and special events. It was wonderful. There i also a library.

Its exciting to enter a food market (in Lingotto, Turin) and find yourself surrounded by good quality Italian food and a large selection of it. To top that up there are different sections for pasta, bread, meat, fish and delicatessen where you can sit at their 'bars' and eat depending on what tickles your fancy. We tried the roasted guinea fowl and grilled beef steak which both came with roast potatoes and greens. Bread and bottled water are free with each meal. The selection of different beers and wines is also astonishing. Another plus is the fact that Eataly is easily reached by a 10 minute tube ride from the centre of Turin.

We visited both Eataly sites when in Turin - Lingotto to eat and Turin central to shop. The concept is fantastic and I love the idea, and would love to have something even remotely a fraction of this place. It's not cheap by any means, but the eating experience is worth it. There are several kind of 'bars' for you to eat at depending on what kind of thing you want. We dabbled at the fried food bar and then ate cheese and cold meats with Champagne at the deli counter. You can eat and shop till about 11pm - quite strange to eat whilst people are pushing trollies doing their weekly shop. Don't get me wrong this is civilised shopping combined with eating, not a dodgy cafe perched in a shop to gain maximum benefit. Get yourself there - it's a foodies heaven!!!
