We discovered Spiaggia Miami through a Milanese website advertising a live music and beach barbecue event later that evening - but we chose to visit during the day. We all had such a wonderful time that we returned two days later to repeat our experience. Lake Orta is one of the most breathtaking places we have ever seen, and Spiaggia Miami offers perfect views. It also offers a section of unusually shallow freshwater bathing, with a platform further out for more confident swimmers in the deeper water, which is warm and silky and sparklingly clean. As well as a typical beach bar and terrace with very good, authentic and affordable food, you can hire pedalos, canoes and kayaks. There are lifeguards and the family who run this business are super friendly and helpful. Hiring comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas at well run private beaches in Italy often seems a little pricey - but Spiaggia Miami was worth every penny. The lemon granita and chilled drinks, fritto misto, fresh fruit and Italian ice creams were all delicious, and the sun did not stop shining. Historic and pretty Orta San Giulio is a very short drive away and makes for a perfect side trip. Milan Malpensa Airport is no further than forty minutes by autostrada, and there is a free private car park just outside the beach entrance.
