Staying at Villa Crespi is one of life's unforgettable experiences. We arrived for a 3 day package to be told we had been upgraded to a suite- result!.
The place is stunning at every turn and just a 5 minute walk to Orta San Guilio.
Dinner was out of this world all 3 nights and the staff in the restaurant were knowledgable and helpful, The sommelier was particularly good and steered me to cheaper end of the wine list local wines rather than just selling the expensive stuff.
The cheese trolleys (there are 2) are a spectacle in themselves and the petit fours made on the premises which arrive after desert are impossible to refuse: oh, the little cream horns were magical.
I'd recommend that you arrive after a period of fasting so that you can enjoy the sumptuous dinners to their full potential.
Nothing is perfect. It is expensive, but I didn't feel ripped off. The service in the garden was sporadic at best.

Three night stay with 2 double rooms and the service was disappointing .
Service on the terrace was slow . Bicycles were not available although the room information said it was a service. Laundry took over 48hours and was not picked up when concierge advised it would be . Laundry not returned in time and items initially missing . Cost requested was 270 euros ,but waived after disbelief! Some front of house staff appeared not to understand simple English which for a stylish international hotel was surprising . Water Ski school recommended offered a poor service and little interest in tuition .Swimming pool at sister hotel 2 km away had crowded surrounds and piped music.
No direct access to lake . Situated close to a junction and traffic audible in gardens .
Undoubtedly a fantastic building and breakfast was good. We decided not to risk a disappointing dinner when the service had been so disappointing.

This is a hotel that is well worth staying in once. It is in an old mansion that was the dream of a mister crespi who modeled it on architecture he saw on his travels to turkey. The first impression is really magical. However, be warned. It's an old building and showing it's age. If you're expecting a stunning modern hotel for the price you're paying you'll be disappointed. But if you want an experience that's different.,it's great. Also it's a very pleasant walk to Orta san gulio which is a pedestrian only really pleasing(not glamorous) italian town.

Stayed for two nights early july as part of a week’s vacation in Italy and Switzerland.
Pros:
Very good and attentive service from reception and doorman.
Huge room (we were upgraded to Gold suite).
Well kept and overall clean.
The charming village og Giulio San Orta within walking distance – but not right at the doorstep.
Cons:
Location at a roundabout quite far from the lake – not as charming as expected. Nothing interesting right at the doorstep of the hotel.
Quite dark rooms with a (too) old world décor.
Air-condition very far from effective.
We dined at the two Michelin star restaurant once – although good food and service not as impressed as we had expected to be.

I have travelled the World and have stayed/eaten at the best hotels any World region has to offer.Nowhere comes even remotely close to the experience you will enjoy at the Villa Crespi. The architecture is as startling as it is stunning, the rooms are magnificent, but I must reserve my most fulsome praise for the restaurant. To call what I had "a meal" is like calling
a Rolls Royce Phantom "a car"
Nothing prepares you for the dining experience you will enjoy.Utterly and completely memorable and wonderful.I do not exaggerate in any way.
Trust me,if you visit no other hotel, try the Villa Crespi.

Our room # 231 was in the attic, converted into a hotel room with a low ceiling, a bath room with no window and the bed looks as if from the rummage sale. The a/c unit placed on the balcony was too noisy to keep it running while we were in the room. The public rooms are marvellous, small but cosy. The breakfast is fantastic. We had the small set menu (85 Euro) with pairing wine (45 Euro) for dinner, which is a bargain and we enjoyed our supper. Would we stay there again? Yes, If we could get a better room.

We had our wedding reception at the Villa Crespi on 28th May followng our wedding ceremony at the villa Bossi in Orta San Guilio village centre.
Much planning had gone into the whole wedding, as I’m sure you can imagine, and this May was my 3rd time visiting hotel and eating at the hotel and first time staying at the hotel.
I am lost for words as to how to describe the hotel, the people and the food as it was so amazing. However, I’ll give it a go!!
First the hotel itself. For me the comment written in the book from a professor of Moorish style architecture from Egypt said it all. He said the hotel was the ‘one of the most amazing representations of Moorish architecture he had ever seen’. Whilst I’m certainly not schooled in this field, I can agree that the hotel is the most amazing hotel I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. From the minute you approach the hotel and view the large copper onion dome, you know you’re in for a treat. Seeing is believing and if your anywhere near the area, even if you don’t want to splash out on a stay or a meal at the Michelin star restaurant, you HAVE to go and see the hotel itself. It’s beautiful in every sense. The room we had was perfect – four poster bed, view of the lake etc – and as the hotel was not very busy, we almost felt like our family had it to ourselves. The breakfast was great, whilst service for the cooked element might have been rather slow, there was plenty more on offer to keep you occupied whilst you waited for your freshly cooked eggs benedict.
Next the service. The hotel staff could not have done more to ensure our special day went without a hitch. We had the personal, but very professional, service you would expect from being royalty! Nothing was too much trouble and even the smallest detail was taken care of by Cinzia, Stefani and the rest of the team.
Next the restaurant. On all 3 occasions I ate at the restaurant I was bowled over by the quality and presentation of the food and the attentive restaurant staff. There is not 1 bad thing I can say and, whilst to some the prices may seem expensive, it is well worth every penny (or should I say cent!). Go on, treat yourself!
In summary, we could not have picked a better hotel in which share our special day with our nearest and dearest. One of the lasting memories of the whole occasion will be the Villa Crespi…. Just the effect we’d hoped for when we chose this spectacular hotel!
