“Wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2014

Best location, in the center of the city, attentive and helpful staff they gave me great restaurant tips, omfortable clean rooms, lovely breakfast. I went with my daughter, ifI return to the city ( which I hope I do) I'd go back!

We chose this hotel among three proposals that had been made at a travel agency, there were tariffs on offer and after visiting the hotel website we liked it and we considered it feasible (a double and a single room, 2 nights, total amount 380€ at the end of December in the w.e.). The hotel is very centrally located (near Piazza Castello and Via Dante ) and allowed us to reach the places of our interest by walk or very short taxi ride.
On our arrival we were welcomed at the reception from a guy who was not exactly the personification of friendliness... but it doesn't matter. Once formalities were completed we were allocated the rooms on the top floor and so went upstairs. A narrow hallway covered with carpet lead us to the doors. Opened the door of the room then the surprises came. The room had nothing to do with the images presented on the website. Here's how it appeared the double room, in random order: parquet flooring in front of the bathroom door was broken and lifted, entrance door that has its opening space overlapping those of the bathroom door and of the doors of the wardrobe -therefore you can open only one door at a time, never two at the same time- broken baseboard corners and cracks on the wall, free space to walk around the bed reduced to about 20 cm, curtains torn in several places, there was no mini-fridge and the door of the compartment that contained it (?) didn't not close properly. When I moved up the bedspread I found a pair of curly hair on the sheets ... I hope at least they were of the maids who had done the room, and not of the previous guests! On bedside tables there were bedside lamps (not the reading lights that you see in the pictures on the website) and one was missing the bulb. The bathroom was also rather small in size and with a layout of the bathroom fixture that could be studied a bit better to make a functional setting. Everything suggests that the top-floor rooms have not been modernized for a long time.
To complete the picture: on the desk there is a card with a sort of sarcastic disclaimer, I quote a couple of sentences: <breakfast is served until 10.00am, not until 10.05am. the only clock that matters is the one hanging in the lobby> ; <sharing with us the fact that you are a TripAdvisor reviewer will not entitle you to a better room>.
Common areas decent and overall clean, bright breakfast room, breakfast buffet in line with the statements on the hotel websit .
Final note for the fire emergency plan, displayed in the hallway, which also has not been updated for a long time, indeed it complies with Italian regulation Law n. 406 of 1980 which has been superseded by a Decree of 1994. just details??
Maybe paying "full" prices they would assign better rooms, similar to those presented on the website. However it is quite unfair to have B series rooms that are not clearly declared, in fact the description on the website is extended to <Each of our rooms> which is not true.

Room Tip: avoid rooms on top floor if possible

My friend and I stayed at the Downtown for one night when our flight was cancelled and we had to move hotels. We didn't actually realize how central this little hotel was until we went out for a walk. It's brand new and very modern. The rooms are very clean and of adequate size. I had a little balcony in my room too. The selection at breakfast is varied and the staff extremely kind, professional and helpful. I found this hotel to be good value for money considering it's bang in the centre of a very expensive city.

Genius Downtown is a small hotel close to Sforza castel. Hotel has very different rooms. I suggest you do not book cheapest rooms because it is small, noise and uncomfortable rooms. And do not book a room close to an elevator

Room Tip: Do not book a room close to an elevator

My husband and I booked this hotel days before visiting Milan for New Years, as it was the best price within the tourist part of the city. Despite the price being pretty steep for just one night, it was a great experience. We could not check-in until 3pm, but the receptionists were extremely helpful and nice, and allowed us to stow our bags so we could get lunch while waiting for the room. The room was clean and spacious. The free breakfast was great with lots of options (breads, pastries, meats, cereals, drinks). The best part about this place is the location--it is a mere two-minute walk to the metro, but it is off on a quite side street. Easy to find, great facilities, I would definitely use this hotel again if I found a good price.

i stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in December just to have a quick visit in Milan- i did not know the city so when i arrived from Malpensa (took the Malpensa express to the city Milano Cardona station) it is a 10 min walk from this hotel which is super handy- not only you are 5 min walk from the stunning Castello Sforzesco and 15 min walk (coz of the window shopping on the way) to the Duomo. The guy at the check in (cant recall his name i can remember he was romanian with perfect italian) was very nice and gave me a lovely room.
Breakfast is continental with boiled eggs, cold meats, sweet croissants, juices, tea and coffees and everything else.
i will def come back here -the price is slightly high but knowing the different standard in Italy this is a great place to stay!!!

Room Tip: the hotel is tucked away in a cul de sac- an old building facing the inner court yard- the rooms are...

The first time I booked this Hotel by Chance but have returned without hesitation ever since. The location is as good as it can get, walking distance to subway and city centre, plenty of restaurants in the neighbourhood...The Hotel has comfortable and modern renovated rooms with welcoming beds and silence. Staff is friendly and forthcoming. Very good value for money overall.
