We spent one night at the Mandarin Milan before our flight the following day. The hotel is centrally located and is right near the Duomo and a variety of luxury and normal shopping.
The service here was excellent. The previous 4 nights we had spent at the Belmond Splendido in Portofino, where the service was poor, so staying at the Mandarin was a breath of fresh air. The hotel staff and concierge really tried to accommodate all of our needs and make our stay great. The hotel can set up for you a private tour of the painting the Last Supper, which you can view with roughly 30 people, which was a pretty special experience.
In addition, in their 1-starred Michelin restaurant, we asked if they could serve us some meat and cheese, which they didn't offer on the menu. They said it wasn't offered but they would see what they could do. They completely accommodated us and created a beautifully presented meat and cheese plate.
My only con which is just Europe and I can't do anything about this but they allow smoking in their outdoor restaurant. Based on how it's situated within a courtyard and the hotels walls border the courtyard, there is no ventilation. The table next to us complained about the cigarette smoke and I wasn't so keen on it, but they allow it, so there isn't much to do, thus I didn't detract a star. I'd suggest a ventilation system to help with the smoke.
