“Good base for Monza GP”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

We have just returned from four nights at the Brianza. We were going to the Monza GP on the Saturday and Sunday and this was the best deal I found when booking.

If you arrive into Linate airport the taxi's are a total rip off, we were quoted 50-60 Euros to travel 7 Km's. We ended up taking the number 73 orange bus into San Babila which cost 1.50 Euros each and this drops you right in the city centre.

The rooms are small but comfortable, the bathroom is a nice size with a shower and it was always clean and fresh towels provided. We only had breakfast two of the mornings due to the time we had to leave to get to Monza. The breakfast was basic it was either one type of cereal or bread, you are given fresh croissants and there is juice and water for you to just help yourself.

The location was good, we did not need to use the subway as everthing was walking distance. The Central Station is a 10-15 minute walk and the city centre is about the same in the other direction heading towards the Duomo .

The Duomo Cathedral is a must, take the lift to the rooftop which costs 12 Euros to see the amazing views of the square and architecture of the cathedral. It is free to go inside and is breathtaking!

We also went on the hop on hop off bus tour which cost 20 Euros and the ticket is valid for 48 hours, this takes you to the sights and is a good way to find out where everything is.

Advise for the Monza GP:

Now the staff at Central Station were very confusing, on the Friday we walked over to check when the trains run into Monza on the Saturday and where told three different things by the staff so were none the wiser! For qualifying take the train which says LECCE and it is around a 10 minute trip into Monza. Before you get on the train get a ticket from the machine which is in English and before getting on the train you need to put it into one of the yellow machines around the station to validate your ticket, they do not have turnstiles like in London but there are ticket inspectors on the train so make sure your ticket is validated. We paid 4 Euros for the ticket for both of us into Monza.

Once you arrive into Monza there are shuttle buses taking you to the park which are free. Make sure you have comfortable shoes as it is a long walk to get to the track as the park is huge but it is well worth it once you arrive at the track.

On the Sunday they do put on special trains which say 'Monza GP' and the first one leaves at 7am, this takes you a bit nearer into the park so the walk is shorter. If you are travelling back to Milan city centre after the race you need to head towards the shuttle bus which says 'Black Line' and the train at the station you need is Milan CLE.

Milan city centre is a great base for the Monza GP as its only a short trip away and if you add on a few extra days before the race you can see all the sights

Milan is the first city we arrived, unfortunately we didn't have an good impression about this city due to our bad experience with the hotel. I decided to pick this hotel for it's price (I remembered it's about EURO 65/night in June). You would expect this hotel to be a little cozy family-own one like I wanted it to be too, BUT, it's not. The staff is rude. (mainly the lady who never smiles at us and never say please - I think she must really hates her job!). We were asked to leave the key to them whenever we leave the room. I know some small hotels have such requirement so it's not a big deal. But the way we were treated make me feel extremely uncomfortable doing it.

So few things you should know about this hotel and this area.
1. You can actually walk from the central station to the hotel in about 10-15 mins. We did it. The walk is safe even for two girls. (we've been to Naples which is a lot worse)
2. There's supermarket just right across the hotel (so you can buy your breakfast or drinks there). Remember there's no fridge in the hotel room though.
3. The hotel has no elevator. We were given a room in 3fl so it took us a while to go to our room with luggages. The stairs are narrow.
4. The surrounding is not bad, some bars and restaurants are nearby within 5 mins of walk. However, you also see graffiti everywhere and most houses are boring concretes. You'll need to take subway to go to Milan Cathedral (Duomo). The walk from hotel to subway station is about 5-10 mins.
5. The bed is alright. It's a thin mattress makes a bit noise when you turn.

Overall, if you're on a budget travel in Summer, I'd still recommend this place. After all, you get AC.

Hotel Brianza was located just out of the city with a 10 minute walk to a Metro that brings you to the city centre of Milano quickly.

Upon arrival the receptionist was all but friendly and direct - probably because of the language barrier. Our room was ready prior to 1400 which was good. The room was very basic, clean and spacious and for 75 Euro it met our expectations. The only thing we were missing was a iron which they did not have available in the hotel.

No free WIFI available - also only available in public areas. For the same rate WIFI is included in most 3* hotels.

This hotel is a good option if staying in Milan however would prefer a more central location and pay slightly more.

this was one of the worst hotels i have ever stopped in the welcome was the receptionist shouting at us for not having a passport in a horrible and disgraceful manner that you would not expect to see from front desk shockingly when we asked to speak to the manager it turned out that she was the owner, after overcoming this we were subject to glares on entry of the hotel and made to feel very unwelcome on top of this the cleanliness of the room was shocking although the floor was clean the walls were a horror with most shockingly of all blood splatter in sections of the walls as well as other suspected body fluids and if we are able to provide photos i am more than happy to upload, the only good part of the hotel was the lad that worked in the evenings who was much better and seemed bothered which makes a massive difference, if you want to stop in a hotel that is close to milan but don't mind about the state off the room this is the hotel for you wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!!!!!!

We were really surprised by the quality of the hotel just for 40 eur per night. Bathroom was big and clean, bed was nice and TV was working:) It was a little bit noisy outside because of trams, so if you are easy to wake up ask for room on the other side.

I spent two nights here. After getting off the train in Milan Central we called the hotel for directions, not only did they not know the way but they lead us in the wrong direction. We finally arrived, the room technically I guess was clean but very very old and disgusting furniture. There is no elevator, you can not get wifi in the rooms but only near the front desk, the management was very rude and at the end when it was time to pay(as I read on trip advisor before hand) they added 15 euros to the bill claiming it was "taxes" and they did nt care what I paid online already. The ONLY thing this hotel has is a pretty central location. I would never recommend this hotel, it is virtually only a place that supplies a bed. Skip it!
