We arrived to a very warm welcome including a glass of prosecco. The service remained excellent throughout. The wine list wasn't large, but it had plenty of variety. The food was excellent also. We especially enjoyed the osso bucco with risotto Milanese. All in all a very pleasant meal.

We passed the Hostaria Borromei when we were out early one morning doing a self guided walking tour (Marco Polo Milan guide) and thought it looked inviting and good for dinner that evening. Late in the afternoon we asked our hotel receptionist if she could recommend a good restaurant within walking distance and she suggested the Borromei without prompting. She telephoned to book a table for us.

The Borromei has an outside courtyard (not inviting in December) and a variety of cosy rooms decorated in a comfortable traditional style – prints, brass work, domestic utensils etc. The welcome was as warm as the room we were shown to – reinforced by a complementary glass of prosecco to aid digestion of the wide ranging menu.

I chose battered courgette flowers and anchovies, followed by rolled swordfish and fried beetroot, with a rich creamy tiramisu to end. The house white was perfectly good.

Food, service and atmosphere where excellent – the best meal we had in Milan.

Tip: well worth booking – the restaurant filled steadily while we were there.

Great service, atmosphere and food (except for the jelly-like pannacotta). We were looking for a small friendly and not too busy restaurant and found this place to be perfect.

we found this restaurant in a michelin guide as a pleasant restaurant and with economic menus. Well we were very happy to eat at this place. The food we had was very yummy. First we started with a octopus salad. the main dish was the milanese stile pork?, I would call this wiener schnitzel with a bone, very delicious and linguine calo. would go there again
