I visited Milan for 10 days and stayed at this hotel for 2 days after which i shifted to another hotel for the rest of my. They charge Euro 105 per night. This is a old construction run by guess some Chinese people. Even the room service and cleanup staff were chinese. The rooms are very very small, you can say just enough to fit a 2 single beds and a TV. The elevator is a again old. They provide free breakfast which barely includes anything. However, the son of the owner stands at the breakfast counter. I once went for a second bun and he gave me such a stare that as if i was committing a crime. Later heard him mentioning to his mom that i ate 2 buns. During the trip the airlines had also missed my luggage at the Switzerland airport. The same arrived at the end of day one but they never informed me. I only realized it once i contacted the airlines 2 days later and found that my bag was delivered on day 1 itself. This is when i decided that i had enough of the nuisance of this hotel and chose to move to a different hotel

We were sent to this hotel because another hotel refused to honor a reservation. We are at the stage of life where we select middle-of-the road hotels, with some amenities, so this hotel did not suit us. However, in my younger and less affluent days, Hotel di Porta Romana would have been perfect. The room was barebones, but clean, large, quiet and with great air conditioning. The hosts were friendly and capable, and the internet (accessed through one terminal in the dark lobby) free. The location is safe and convenient enough -- probably much better than in most budget hotels, and despite the small and creaky lift and the fact that the rooms are off small and poorly lit corridors, I think the hotel provided outstanding value at 80 euros for a triple room.

Glad I didn't read the reviews before I booked! (although the Expedia reviews looked fine). My wife and I stayed 3 nights. We had a lovely spacious attic room, good condition, with a nice 'multi-level' shower in the bathroom. One storey above where the lift finished, so a flight of stairs to climb, but on the plus side, no creaking floorboards above us! Staff were fine, breakfast was fine (and unlike every other Italian hotel we've stayed in, they don't sugar-coat their croissants!). Location was good - far enough from the centre to be affordable, but near enough to walk (ca.10') - or about one minute from nearest metro. Would happily stay there again.
The restaurant next door (no connection to the hotel as far as I know, though they did send us there) is pretty mediocre, but if you head up the main road to the centre and turn left a couple of blocks up, there is an excellent Sardinian eatery. We were so impressed with our first meal that we took a big group of friends there the next night.

The hotel itself isn't too bad when you bear in mind that it is significantly cheaper (we paid 95 euro's/night through LateRooms) than most other hotels in Milan. Even so, you still expect a certain level of service. However, the staff are pretty useless and the place is in need of redecorating - i'm still amazed I didn't die in the lift!

The buffet breakfast was pretty much the worst i have ever witnessed with croissants packed in sealed foil bags (not at all fresh), stale bread, rubbery cheese and coffee, something the Italians pride themselves on, that tasted awful.

On the plus side, the location is good - only 2 stops away from the Duomo on the metro and therefore within easy access to just about everything Milan has to offer.

My biggest gripe I have with this hotel came when I returned home to the UK and checked my bank. They had debited an extra 95 euro's out of my account (on a separate occasion to when we checked out) without my consent or knowledge.

Numerous telephone conversations later, to staff that barely speak a word of English, and three separate faxes the money was still not returned to my account despite promises that it would be. In the end I had to fill out a Visa dispute form at my local bank and the money was refunded to me by the bank.

For these reasons, I would not return to this hotel again and would urge people to consider whether the "cheapest" is really the best option.

To start off, we wer made to think that our booking wasnt received until the receptionist looked further.

The staff couldnt have been any more ignorant, never smiled, never even looked at us which i thought was awful.

As it was a small hotel, we had to wake someone up when going back to the hotel late at night and we were made to feel like nuisances.

Someone had 20 euros taken out of their bag as well.

some of the rooms were ok, some were pretty bad. rock hard beds and pillows. showers are tiny and some complained of freezin cold water every time they showered.

wouldnt stay there again. couldnt even have a drink in our room because the staff complained of noise.
