“A nice stroll”
Reviewed March 29, 2012

I remembered the park when it was off-limits due to the drug problem. Now it is a beautiful park in the center of the city, linking the Navigli area to the city center trough a path that leads from the restaurant area of the canals, the shopping on the mainstreets via this beautiful place. Spring weekends are the best time to enjoy it. Not to forget, if you are inclined to art, the beautiful Churches that give the name to the park. In the evening you are not far from some of the more popular spots like Colonne di San Lorenzo. All in all one of my favourite place in the city

“An oasis behind the busy streets”
Reviewed February 8, 2012

A nice little park in the shadow of two basilicas. Go on a sunny day for nap or pick nick.

“Hidden park with playgrounds connecting historical sites”
Reviewed July 19, 2011

The parco delle basiliche could be easily missed by the busy tourist, but even if it's not a "must see" it's certainly worth a glance.
It starts from the back of San Lorenzo Cathedral (the one with the roman columns in front) and reach the back of another famous Milan's church: Sant'Eustorgio. The visit of both churches with their "secrets" (Sant'Aquilino and Portinari chapels) is of course highly recommended, like the visit at Museo Diocesano that is in the middle of the park, but for those see the relevant reviews.
The park is quite well kept, cut in two halves by a road and have three small playground areas for kids and two fenced area for dogs. The water of the green fountains is fresh and perfectly drinkable, like all the comunal fountains in Milan. The real plus is the central position, perfect for a fresh rest while walking around Milan center, and the sight of the back of San Lorenzo church that reveals the complexity of the structure, dating some 16 centuries back in time. There are many treats around the park selling goodies to eat under a tree: for example the excellent Ice creams by Grom some 100mt outside the park on the road crossing it or even the complete picnic set with basket and blanket rent by the California Bakery on the side of Sant'Eustorgio.
The only minus is that sometimes the lawn close to San Lorenzo could be filled by groups of youngs smoking or drinking, but going beyond the punk look, usually they are simply enjoying the park as you do, so if you stay on the path you don't even come close to them and the area is well controlled by guards and cameras, so it is to be considered perfectly safe. I often go there with my kids and never had any problem.
