We stumbled across this basilica quite unexpectedly while walking to see The Last Supper and it was a real treasure, peaceful, uncrowded, fascinating and free with no queues, utterly unlike the Duomo! You can just walk down to the crypt unhindered and see the remains of St Ambrose in his bishop's finery, creepy but strangely compelling for the non-Catholic!

A masterpiece of the middle ages. Its works of arts by some of the masters of italian painting, religious symbols, building, not to miss!

One of the most ancient churches in Milan, the Basilica is a building rich in history and along with the Duomo a focal point of the City's religious life.

Our guide on the Milan City Tour suggested we visit this Church -- for which we must thank her, as it proved to be one of our most treasured memories of Milan.

The church is mostly built in brickwork of different colors, with parts of stone and white plaster. The hut-shaped façade has two loggias and the basilica has two bell towers.

Among other treasures, the Golden Altar underneath a decorative canopy is the Basilica's focal point. It is quite stunning. There are some lovely mosaics and a Roman sarcophagus to the left of the nave.

The crypt, located under the high altar hoids the remains of three saints venerated here: Ambrose, Gervase and Protase.

Despite its historical importance, I felt a great sense of spirituality and simplicity here as it is not commercialized - and for me, this was one of its most attractive aspects.

I loved to go and visit this church. It's a part of a seminar but you can't really see it as there're usually kids playing nearby so there's always sound.
The inside is kind of simple for Milano churches standard but still very beautiful.
It's only a shame that we took the metro just to see it as walking it's a little far from the center.
But I advise you all to go and watch.

In my opinion, nothing special nor spectacular about it. there are much more interesting places to see in Milano. But it is close to the center, so it can be seen quickly on the way
