“Lombard Roman Style”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

You need to see this ancient basilica as the monument it is, as well as the inspiration it has been for countless buildings across Europe from the Pyrenees to Germany and beyond. The altar is on full display with its Carolingian gold art work well lighted, and in the crypt the bodies of Bishop Ambrose and the two martyrs after which the temple was originally dedicated in 390 AD. It's the discovery of a link with the late Roman empire and its then capital city.

“Great historical place”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

After visiting the Duomo, S. Ambrogio looks very less impressive however you need to make yourself aware of the history around this place first to fully enjoy the visit.
It is not far away of downtown and a good historical meaning.

“very old, very nice”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We like the old chruch of S. Ambrogio. The acoustics are very nice, and the type of building was very modest, somethin I can appreciate.

“Of great historical significance”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

In contrast to the Duomo, which is about a mile away, this church has relatively few visitors. It was originally built in the late 4th Century by St. Ambrose who was Bishop of Milan and a great preacher who was responsible for the conversion of St, Augustine. Most of the church has been rebult several times, but there are places where you can view some of the original construction. There is a small museum near the front of the church on the right side, but there is another museum close to the Duomo.

“Nothing special”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Except for housing the relics of the saint with the same name, the church has nothing interesting to offer. I have visited the treasury as well but I wasn't impressed at all. Beware, the church is closed at around noon for a lunch break.
