“Lost booking resulted in manager becoming aggressive”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2009

We had a confirmed booking with this hotel for the Grand Prix weekend. The confirmation email was dated January 2009. The hotel had sold our reserved room to another guest at a higher price than we had paid.

When we turned up on the Friday evening the manager blamed a computer crash, demanded we left the premesis and was aggressive on numerous occasions.

We had asked for a "quiet" room and were given a room that faced the main road with trams and 2 lanes of traffic racing up and down all night. We couldn't close the french doors because the room smelt so bad - there was huge wet stain which smelt like effluent on the floor leaking from the room next door. We asked for a change of room and the concierge just shrugged. It was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.

Just back from a couple of days in Milan.
This hotel was ideal for a few nights. Although not on the Metro line the Number 12 tram stopped right outside.
Rooms were clean, beds comfy. Breakfast was adequate.
Travelling in Milan - buy a daily ticket for 3 euros for unlimited metro tram and bus travel.Just make sure that you are going in the right direction!
TIP - buy earplugs , there appear to be a vast number of ambulances plying their trade in the vicinity, at all hours!

After having stayed in 1,3 and 4 star hotels in Milan I was pleasantly surprised by the high standard of this 2 star. The rates were very reasonable, the staff very friendly and welcoming and were always there to help throughout the duration of the stay.
The room was very nice with a balcony overlooking the street, it was clean and attractive and had a nice bathroom.
Breakfast was a large buffet of biscuits, cakes, cereal, yoghurts, juices etc and was better than or at least equal to breakfasts I've had at other hotels in Milan.
The only downside to the hotel was that there is no Metro station nearby, although there is a tram stop directly outside the hotel which goes to the centre and Duomo. As it is a little out of the centre it takes about 15 minutes on the number 12 tram to the centre but that wasn't a problem, and the tram runs until after 2am so is easy to get back to after a night out.
Overall I would say that this hotel is great and I would definitely stay there again.

This trip was one week with my friend, so we just needed accomodation that was fairly clean and comfortable. Thats what we got.
Upon our arrival the reception staff were pleasant enough and even gave us a bunch of keys so we could choose the room we'd like to stay in.
It would seem we were one of three guests at the time which is nothing considering there are many floors.
The room was pleasant, good size with a very good clean bathroom. The furniture was dusty which acted up with my friends allergy but nothing a piriton didnt cure.
Breakfast, however, was something of a let down. Each morning we would be served lukewarm tea and on display would be a stale cereal, warm milk, hard croissants and a gateau(!!!)
The location of the hotel was a short walk and then one tram in to the centre which took approx 15 minutes. Night times in this area we felt safe enough.

For people wanting to see the sights, this hotel would be ideal. I would not recommend it to those on a romantic break.

I booked this hotel because I was looking for a nonexpensive hotel to stay for only 1 night before the start of our cruise the next day. After searching the internet for some time I decided to go along with Hotel Mac Mahon. I must say that it's not an unacceptable hotel but there are some things I did not like! First of all when we arrived at the hotel a group of 4 to 5 people were checking out, that would normally not be a problem but the lobby is so small that only 2 - 3 people can stand there, the rest including us had to stand outsite waiting. When it was finally our turn we were told that our room was not ready yet which would have been ok if we would have arrived early in the morning but we arrived in the afternoon and far later that the check in time was. We were told after waiting 30 minutes outside to go ourselves have look if the room was ready. I know I had booked a low budget hotel but I still think it's a bit strange to send hotel guests (does not matter how low budget your hotel is!) to go have a look themselves if their room is ready. My partner and I went up to have a look and they had not even started cleaning it yet. After waiting outside for in total around 1 hour, we finally checked in to our room. The room was ok for a low budget hotel, the toilet and shower were clean but not very atractive. The next day we checked out early with another receptionist which was far more quick and efficient than the one we had during check in. I must say that breakfast was very good: big buffet and very delicious coffee and cappuccino.
If you are only planning to stay 1 night in Milan and you need a low budget hotel I would recommend Hotel Mac Mahon but if you are staying longer I would recommend you to find a better hotel.

Our family of 4 booked a quad room (hard to find in Milan ) at this hotel 4 months in advance. Our vacation was during the "furniture fair" so no rooms were to be found in early April. Upon arrival in our room we found 3 small Toddler beds for the 4 of us. We ended up moving the dressers and putting all 3 beds together.
Luckily we only had to stay for one night.
