My first issue with this hostel was that there was no signage. I wandered around the streets looking for it for a while. Picked up its wifi signal but couldnt see it. It is in a brown building with an open door and there is an a4 piece of paper with the name of the hostel on it on that open door. I stayed in a mixed dorm which was reasonable for a hostel. There were free breakfasts which consisted of croissants and coffee. Staff were happy to help if you had a question. There was free wifi and a computer you could use if you needed to. I walked from the hostel to most locations such as the Duomo. There is a metro station nearby if you need it. The airconditioning in my room was really bad and so it was pretty warm in there. There also wasnt a lot of powerpoints in my room so not everyone could charge their phones and cameras.
As for your whole trip in Italy, I highly recommend the Triposo Italy iphone app! It saved me so many times because it has maps of each city available offline and it picks up your gps signal without needed an internet connection. Life saver!

I booked 4 nights through HostelBookers and rocked up to The Monastery Hostel and produced my paperwork which stated 4 nights and when the guy had pulled out their paperwork it showed only 2 nights even though it had the same booking reference etc. The guy and I could not understand what happened but he was able to sort out the extra 2 nights for me even though the hostel was booked out.

Excellent location. Walking distance to Duomo Square, San Bernardino alle Ossa, Milan cathedral, supermarket etc.

This has to be the quietest hostel I have even been in. It was so good to be able to chill out without drunk, raving travellers hanging around.

Big and clean kitchen. Fridge in your dorm room. Free wifi. Free laundry. Free locker.

Honestly I could not say anything negative about this hostel. Even though I am a lesbian who's entire body is tattooed they treated me no different than anybody else. Considering this hostel is part of a monastery I give them 10/10.

Will definately be back.

This place is in a good location close to a metro stop and in a safe area. It is also possible to walk to the main square - only 20 min walk. The room we stayed in had air conditioning and the beds were really comfy. The free breakfast was ok. Really nice fresh croissants but not much variety and coffee machine wasnt any good. The staff members were fantastic. They were so helpful and on our first night one of them even took us to the restaurant area and helped us find a cheap but good place. The only thing I found odd was that they had to wear suits to work. Walking in to a hostel you expect casual and friendly staff members and when they wear suits it automatically creates a barrier in my opinion. Bit out of place and they must have been so hot! But overall great place - only thing it needs is a better common area.

I chose the Monastery Hostel because of its excellent value but was underwhelmed upon check-in. Our private triple room had bunk beds and the HEAT was on the whole time. Even with the windows open it got very hot in the rooms. The rooms are old and have an industrial feel. The front desk staff, however, was very helpful and arranged Vespa rentals for us. The hostel is close to a metro stop and in a good, safe location. There are also a number of highly-rated restaurants within walking distance of the hostel. On a side note, if you plan to see Da Vinci's Last Supper, be sure to book weeks or months in advance. We were very thankful we did.
