“Good hotel, best for location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014

I chose this hotel as I took my husband to Milan for a birthday present. He is into contemporary design, me not so much. Our room reminded me of Videodrome, but I coped with it! The important thing was that my husband liked it, and he did!

The bathroom was really nice actually, and I liked all the panels with things hiding away. No need to take shower gel or moisturiser because you get a huge bottle! Part of the hotel's eco-friendly attempts. It saves on all those little refillable ones.

We stayed in a standard double room. It was a decent size, though I did expect it to be a bit bigger after looking at the hotel's website, and TA of course. The mirrors definitely make the rooms seem bigger. Our room was by the lift though, so I did notice a lot of noise during the night. My husband slept through it. In fact, one night someone arrived in the room next door, and it sounded like they were trying to get into our room! They were, but because of the way the doors are they rattle each other. So, don't freak out too much if that happens. There is some building works a couple of doors along, and that starts up weekday mornings around 9. So you may not get a lie in!

We were B&B, but didn't have breakfast in the hotel. Or any other food actually. We did use the bar though. Prices seemed to vary according to who was serving at the bar and what time it was. Also, one night I asked for a drinks menu and was told there wasn't one, so asked for a cocktail. The bartender told me they didn't do them, even though most of the people in the bar were drinking them. He then preceded to make one. Not sure what was up there?! ...

The location of the hotel is excellent, right by the Duomo so that means it's easy to find. It's pretty much attached to the Galleria too, so shops are right there. It's very close to the Sforza castle too, if you are interested in visiting there.

Reception staff were pleasant enough. Remember, you will need to pay a city tax currently EUR10 per night's stay.

In general I was pleased with the hotel. Maybe I'd try somewhere different if I ever return to Milan. Happy travels!

My husband and I stayed in straf hotel when we visited Milan during our trip to Italy.Straf is a modern hotel , it has a very unique strange interior design but it is very clean , the employees were so friendly and helpful has the best location ever infront of the cathedral and a huge laRinascente departement store and many other shopping streets are near by that have all the brands u dream of . I enjoyed staying in this hotel and if ill be back to milan ill absolutely stay there again.

I liked almost everything. The location is awesome. The reception staff are very nice. the room size and furniture are good. the only thing I was not happy with is that you should inform them everyday that you need them to tidy the room otherwise no one will do it.

Great hotel, really lovely, helpful staff on the desk who recommended us some excellent restaurants nearby. The room was really lovely and perfectly located for a short visit to the city. They let us have a late check out 'till 4pm on new years day as our flight wasn't until 9pm. Our only minor complaint was the €8 charge for my eggs at breakfast.

Straf is a Design Hotel in the heart of Milano. I stayed there for 2 nights for business reasons. Its big advantage is the location in Piazza Duomo, next to the main shopping street Corso Vittorio Emanuele, close to via Montenapoleone with the luxury boutiques and in a neighborhood full of restaurants and cafes. Rooms are a bit dark which is interesting for design lovers but not everyone will like it. However, they are pretty spacious for single or double occupancy and there is a big working desk. Beds are comfortable and queen size. WiFi is free as it is in most Design Hotels which is a big plus (I really can't understand why international branded hotels insist on internet charges). The bathroom bench is a bit uncomfortable. It is very short with a long cylinder washbasin on the left side. You need to stoop everytime you want to reach a towel or your toothbruch. I was bending on my knees in order to wear my contact lenses! But unique design is not always comfortable or practical. Straf has also a popular bar with nice cocktails and guest DJs. Breakfast was just fine with a variety of choices although it could offer more for a room rate close to 200 euro. I enjoyed the prosciouto which is difficult to find in breakfast buffets outside Italia. Staff was helful overall and guys in reception allowed a late check out at no extra charge despite me being late in my late check out time! Lastly there is also a charity display in the lobby with T-Shirts and jewels. Your purchase or donation helps a project of water supply in Mali. I would certainly choose Straf if I visit Milano again.

Room Tip: Straf Bar is very popular and it's a kind of a street bar as the alley in front of the hotel is...

We loved the location of this hotel very much. Very handy for the cathedral and the most excellent feasting and treats of the big shopping centre (go to the mozzarella bar on the top floor and enjoy both). The room was great and we got upgraded to something gargantuan. The rooms were modern and minimalist but comfy and interesting. Nice cocktail bar downstairs

Hotel Straf is in a fantastic location and is located on a side street so very little (if any) street noise can be heard from the bedrooms which makes for a very peaceful night's sleep. The staff were friendly and the room (a deluxe) spacious.
However, there are a few things that I found a little disappointing that would be so easy to fix. The first was the giant shampoo/shower gel/hand wash and body lotion in the bathroom. I support hotel's using large bottles to save on plastic, but it really would have been nicer to have a separate hand wash and also a bottle of conditioner given the room price per night. The room was well maintained, but the pillows were pretty uncomfortable which resulted in a not very good nights sleep.
Overall a pretty good experience, but not of the level i was expecting given the reviews and the price.
