“Maybe too much design?”
Reviewed September 26, 2011

Can you ever have too much of a good thing? In the booklet lying on the table in our Junior suite in Park Hyatt, we read about the designer mirrors and the flattering designer lighting in the rooms. Indeed, there were so many mirrors that I twice almost bumped into one. There even was a large mirror in front of the toilet, so that you could see yourself sitting there – quite a new experience. And there were many lamps (a necessity, because there was only a small window giving out on a courtyard), but the lighting was throughout not very functional. Flattering, yes, but not at all convenient for reading, or, in the bathroom, for shaving or applying make-up. But the Junior suite was very spacious, the bathroom was really huge, with (a.o.) a lovely shower cabin, there were lots and lots of toiletries, the bed was very comfortable, so maybe I should not have started this review with criticizing. There was free mineral water and juice, and some fruit.
The location of Park Hyatt is great: next to the famous Galleria, and just a few steps from the Duomo. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. When we arrived, it was nice to receive some detailed information about Milan. We had prosecco in the lobby, under the beautiful glass dome, and were served by a very friendly waiter. The next morning the breakfast buffet was also set up in the lobby, and some people (including us) apparently found it not very comfortable eating breakfast while sitting on a rather low, easy chair. But the breakfast food was very good, and the cappuccino was excellent (served in a cup of very thin porcelain, which I loved).
Except the beautiful lobby, we did not like the public areas much, and the corridors on our floor were very anonymous, everywhere the same beige colour, the numbers on the doors making the only difference.
To conclude: in this luxury hotel you will of course be very comfortable, but for us there were also some minor disappointments.

The hotel is in an excellent location and provides discreet yet efficient service. We really enjoyed waking up in the middle of the city of Milan which we found much more interesting and authentic than the other heavily touristed cities of Italy- However be aware that for the high prices charged the hotel has limited facilities or amenities for guests and the rooms are unexceptional and can be noisy at the lower level that we stayed in. Overall though would happily stay there again.

Obviously outstanding. Immaculate, great location, friendly staff, very convienient and close to Duomo. Very similar to the finest New York Hotels in the fact that it almost feels that the great service is provided due to the expectation of a great tip. Someone shows you into your room (5 Euro), then someone comes up to check on you in your room (5 Euro), book tickets for an event (20 Euro), "Here let me get your bags, sir!" (5 Euro). Not the hotel's fault, that's just the way it is. Overall great stay and a great hotel.

The Park Hyatt, Milan is ideally located, a few minutes' walk from the Duomo. The e-concierge service was brilliant, as I could book a tour in advance, and take in the Last Supper during my one-day stay. The rooms were luxurious, I wish I could have stayed longer! Breakfast was not included with the room and was rather expensive at the hotel. But there were plenty of restaurants and other eating places nearby.

We stayed at the Park Hyatt Milan over the F1 weekend and I have no complaints. We stayed in a Park King Deluxe King. The room and bathroom were both very spacious. Because of the period, the room was more pricey than usual (it costs about 200 euros less off peak).

The hotel staff were excellent and extremely professional and polite. The concierge was very helpful and knowledgeable. We ate at the Italian restaurant at the hotel on our last night in Milan and it was very very good food.

Th hotel is very central and has loads of shops around it. It is also within walking distance of other shopping areas. It is on a quiet end of a street in a nice area around the corner from the Duomo and it felt safe to walk around because there were always many people eating on the sidewalk and walking around. There was also a police presence.

I would definitely recommend the Park Hyatt Milan to anyone looking for a centrally located luxury hotel in Milan.

We paid premium prices for adjoining rooms and I suppose you could say it was worth it because they really were quite magnificent, especially the bathrooms (which were bigger than the rooms.) The two things that spoiled the overall effect was the toilet seat (which tired looking) and a weird musty smell that seemed to permeate the room. The windows opened into an inner courtyard, so not much help in terms of fresh air. Navigating the corridor to the elevators made me feel like I was in a catacomb (I would not want to be doing it alone...)

A great location however for walking around and the seating for breakfast was definitely different. Not a proper restaurant but an extension of the lounge.
