“Good Hotel if you go at the right time . . . .”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Booked this hotel for August, the hotel itself is situated conveniently for one of the main railway stations, but unfortunately if you're sightseeing it's at the wrong end of Milan's centre as it's in the business area. If we'd gone at a more sensible time of the year this wouldn't have been a problem but in August the weather was unbelievable and taxi's were the sensible way to get around - or even better the open topped touring bus. The hotel itself is in a slightly seedy looking area but this is on the surface and it's actually very good so don't be put off. We'd arrived in the main italian holiday season so we were virtually the only guests in the hotel, which meant that they closed the restaurant, cafe and bar which could have been a pain, but as we were there for the weekend we ate out anyway, but be warned if you're on business in August it makes it difficult to make arrangements for yourself. We were upgraded to a bigger/better room which was very clean, tidy and up to date the bathroom was again clean, well stocked with toiletries and the water was powerful and hot. The staff in the hotel were italian funnily enough, but were very pleasant and helpful, with maps and directions to sights/shopping, etc. One problem which was not the hotels fault was that it is built around a central area which is the roof of the downstairs part of the hotel, which some other italians staying in the hotel decided to move all of their furniture out during the night and had a party outside our bedroom window! But would recommend this hotel and would love to go back in winter as the shopping in Milan is fabulous.

Hotel just located next to the train station, though the location is a bit outskirts. Can travel easily to the tourist spot like Duomo cathedral. At night, most of the shops close, need to walk a little bit to have our dinner. I just stay a night here because want to visit Duomo. Wifi was slow inside the room, I gave up finally from using it.

Pending your requirements, this hotel can be a good choice or not. We were looking for a hotel near the city centre which was in walking distance from a train station for the Malpensa Express. From Garibaldi station, the hotel is at walking distance from the train station. The centre of the city (Duomo, Scala) is a good 20-30 minutes walk. The hotel itself is located at a busy street. For restaurants or bars, you can cross Garibaldi station. Around the hotel itself there is not much unless you are into fancy graveyards. Monumentale, the cemetery museum is around the corner.

Our room was clean but not very big. Bathroom was functional - nothing special. Rooms are quiet, street noise is audible but not annoying at all. Staff is polite but I not overfriendly, especially at breakfast.

Pros :

+ walking distance from Garibaldi station
+ clean and functional rooms
+ good breakfast with good choice

Cons :

- Room temperature was far to warm and could not be lowered a lot despite individual climate control
- WIFI charges are ridiculous
- TV signal is very poor unless you like looking at blurry images and lots of snow

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights in August 2012. We were given an 'upgrade' due to a mix up with the rooms, the actual rooms were nice, large beds and very comfy and modern, however the bathroom was dated but had all you needed. It had tea and coffee making facilities however, there were two portions of milk in the room on arrival and they weren't replaced throughout our stay. I rang down and asked on the second day for some more, but were told they didn't have any....same the day after....and yep you guessed it until I asked for a manager and someone brought some milk in a jug. It might sound like a small gripe but why didn't they just do that on the first day??!

The area around the hotel leaves a lot to be desired, theres a small supermarket couple mins away if you turn left out of the hotel and some restaurants however, we didnt enjoy the meals we had nearby.

Positives - tram stop outside of hotel (turn right and just across the road) about 20mins to centre. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice.

Negatives - staff who are unhelpful, location, facilities.

I'm really not hard to please but I wouldn't return.

Room Tip: Upgrade for a larger room

Although our booking was confirmed and payment was received well before our arrival this hotel didn’t properly process our booking. Due to the high season with fashion week this meant that our 16 strong group were then moved to the more remote Holiday Inn Nord.
They haven’t yet paid back the difference in room price. Plus we also incurred extra costs in having to catch additional transport from the other hotel.

Really nice room, very clean, lovely large comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Ran out of tea and had no milk, rang down twice and got sent teabags and brown sugar twice so gave up and bought our own!

Staff were pleasant and helpful.

With luggage you need to get a taxi from the station, good transport links with the tram stop just around the corner.

Only had breakfast the one morning very early and it seemed pretty good.

Hotel is located not far from the main train station. Took a taxi from the station to the hotel costing 6E and a short 5 minutes ride.
Room was small even with upgrade, being a priority member.
Very cold services from most staff except for one english speaking lady at the counter.
Had to pay for wifi which was not acceptable for a 4 star rated hotel with such high rates.
Hotel is near a bus/tram stop which makes travelling around Milan easy. Bus or tram no 2 takes you to Duomo within 15 minutes. Buy a day pass at the tobacco shop behind the bus/tram station.
During our stay, the tram was not operating at the station due to roadworks and we needed to change bus/tram at Lancia station.
Behind the station, a corner cafe serves decent food at reasonble prices.
Too pricey.

Room Tip: dont take the front rooms facing the road junction. Noisy at night.
