Owner description: Why visit a cemetery when you’re on vacation, you ask? The tombs at this Milan burial ground offer a great glimpse of Italian artistic styles from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

“Impressive”

I have never been a fan of wandering around churchyards, however I have to say this Monumental Cemetary is very impressive. It is also a very peaceful place, the statues and monuments are works of art. The Last Supper is a particularly impressive piece. It will take you a good hour to walk around and see everything.

“Beautiful art and peaceful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

It's out from the city center, but definitely worth a visit and accessible with good directions and public transportation. This was unlike anyplace we'd ever seen - a huge cemetary with tons of sculptures of all sizes, graves, mausoleums, etc. It really is a beautiful and moving place to visit.

“Hidden Gem”

Not many travelers seek out adventures in cemeteries during their trips, but this particular one is a must if you love art and are not creeped out by cemeteries. If you plan on spending a couple of days in Milan, I would suggest getting the main attractions in the city out of the way first and take an afternoon scroll through Monumental Cemetery. The grounds are well-kept and the walls have been built into a cremation memorial. Inside, maps are posted throughout the area with color photos of some of the more exquisite tombs and memorials. Within the cemetery are many intricate sculptures and impressive mausoleums dedicated to important Italians and one can also see how the modern-day wealthy have chosen to repose. My personal favorite is a square-shaped tomb inscribed with the Italian word for goodbye, "arrivederci." The best thing besides the tranquility and art is that it's free. Buon viaggio!

“Exotic cemetery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013 via mobile

This is a review from a person who has visited some of most famous cemeteries of the world like old cemetries in Paris, London, Zagreb and... . But I think Milan's Old Cemetry is very different with other old cemeteries and you can experience new athomospher in this place. If you want to have a compelete visit, you have to mind it will need more than 2-3 hour.
