In one of the seats up top 'piccionaia'....yes ridiculously unconfortable but - if you cannot afford the 'good seats' - you must still go and see a performance at La Scala. You breath history and art. A must see.

This was so much more than I expected! From the outside you would never anticipate the beauty of the interior of the opera house. The exhibition itself is fascinating but the highlight is the fact that you get to watch part of a rehearsal which was a tremendous joy. This was so well worth the small adission fee.

Small building but jammed with moments. Good signage in English. Heard the orchestra rehearsing.
Great book shop basement filled with great CDs.

We had wanted to see La Boheme but it was sold out well in advance. The museum tour plus the ability to stand in one of the boxes and look out into the theatre was a good second. It is a remarkable place to visit- but remember the museum is closed between 12.30 and 1.30pm for lunch.

If you want to get a quick look at the legendary opera house without having to listen to an opera or a ballet, go to the La Scala Museum. It's incorporated into the theater building, it's easy to find. The main attraction is a chance to see the theater hall - but you won't see much from a box, there are almost no lights and you wouldn't be allowed to walk along the rows.
Costumes, portraits and some musical instruments are on display, but it's hardly a bargain to pay 20 EUR just to see them.
In the end, I had a feeling that I could have found a better value for my money.
