We visited mamma's on our first night in Milan as it is near the central train station where we were staying and the reviews on TA were overall pretty good. The food is in fact very very good and also of fair size. Like many reviewers we had the complimentry fizz and the bruscetta. But as we were expecting it, it takes the shine off the freebie! We had the prawns and capresei for starter which were both tasty and quite large. We skipped the first course (thankfully as it would never have all fit in my belly) and went to the second course. I was tempted by the sea bass baked in salt that other reviewers had mentioned.... But at 36 euros per person ( and you both have to have it), we felt it was ridiculous! We went for the monk fish and the beef tartare. Monk fish was very good my wife assures me and the beef tartare was firstly a mini show as the waiter mixed all the seasonings in front of us. The problem (i can't believe i'm saying this) is that there was just too much raw meat! It was huge!! We finished with a delicious pudding each and a complimentry after dinner wine. With a bottle of gavi, a side of potatoes and an espresso, the meal came to 120 euros. Steep, but the atmosphere was good and friendly. I would recommend, but be ready to spend some money!!
