We visited mamma's on our first night in Milan as it is near the central train station where we were staying and the reviews on TA were overall pretty good. The food is in fact very very good and also of fair size. Like many reviewers we had the complimentry fizz and the bruscetta. But as we were expecting it, it takes the shine off the freebie! We had the prawns and capresei for starter which were both tasty and quite large. We skipped the first course (thankfully as it would never have all fit in my belly) and went to the second course. I was tempted by the sea bass baked in salt that other reviewers had mentioned.... But at 36 euros per person ( and you both have to have it), we felt it was ridiculous! We went for the monk fish and the beef tartare. Monk fish was very good my wife assures me and the beef tartare was firstly a mini show as the waiter mixed all the seasonings in front of us. The problem (i can't believe i'm saying this) is that there was just too much raw meat! It was huge!! We finished with a delicious pudding each and a complimentry after dinner wine. With a bottle of gavi, a side of potatoes and an espresso, the meal came to 120 euros. Steep, but the atmosphere was good and friendly. I would recommend, but be ready to spend some money!!

Thank Scott B

I visited this lovely restaurant with my daughter. On being shown to our table we were given a complimentary glass of sparkling Prosecco whilst we viewed the menu. Being somewhat unaccustomed to the Italian menu we were taken through it by the waiter. Having made our decision we were treated to an exceptional five course meal. The only negative comment related to my choice of deep fried sqid which I found rather on the greasy side.Following the meal we were again given a complimentary glass of an unknown digestif. The bottle was even left on the able for our use. Overall a great meal at a very reasonable price only spoiled by my choice. The staff were great company and added to our experience

Came highly recommended by the hotel, but while the service was excellent, the food didn't match the expectation or price

Being the day after Christmas, it was very difficult to find any open restaurants in Milan. We were referred to Mamma Rosa from our hotel and upon entering the restaurant, we immediately realized that we made a mistake. The restaurant felt like a zoo with waiters running around at all times and dropping silverware every 5-10 minutes. One of the times, the waiter dropped 2 silverware from his tray but continued to walk to drop 2 more silverware from his tray. Also, when we asked if Beef Capaccio was available, the waiter returned with a tray of truffles hoping that we would choose the very expensive truffle option. The food was good but the hurried and salesman like atmosphere left a bad taste in my mouth and felt like I was in a car dealership and not a restaurant. I would avoid at all costs unless if you don't have any other options.

We arrived at 11.15pm on Christmas eve and were welcomed with open arms.

A generous bread basket with multiple delicious breads was served along with a complimentary glass each of rose.
A good portion of tomato/beef ragout on fettucine was flavoursome and just the right amount and the other pasta was excellent too.

We declined dessert because of the late hour but enjoyed good espresso and a complimentary plate of home made petits fours. The whole bill was only 44 euro for two.

We will visit again before we leave Milan.
