“I think they got it !”
Reviewed June 29, 2011

My family just returned from 3 weeks in Europe. We picked the Manzoni because of its location and generally good reviews here on trip advisor. Our hesitation were the reviews on the poor reception. If that was ever an issue they have addressed it ! This boutique hotel in the center of the shopping district is quiet, close to good restaurants and boasts great service. Ice to the room was delivered in minutes, the check in was very fast and the rooms, we were on the top floor with balconies were fantastic. The junior suite had hardwood floors, a separate sitting area, large bathroom and sunset view from the patio. At no extra charge room service delivered a full American breakfast to the room ( patio has table and chairs , shade in the a.m. ) Fresh squeezed orange juice as well, they definatley get it ! Our last trip to Europe with the family was in 2005 and in 9 months only a handful for hotels could complare to the Manzoni and those that did were 5 stars with Presidential suites. Great small hotel, good value. Great restaurant 50 meters to the west in beautiful courtyard.

Room Tip: For the best room request top floor , street side

We stayed at the Hotel Manzoni for three nights in mid-May. The hotel has an excellent location, right in the middle of Milan's justifiably famous fashion district, home to every imaginable high end fashion boutique in the world, along with many others which are unique to this city and Italy. The hotel if beautiful, with expansive marble used throughout, and the rooms are equally luxurious if a little small. Breakfast is excellent with hot dishes prepared to order, and an extensive buffet available. In every one of these respects, the hotel is excellent and we would stay here again. But then there is the attitude to which several reviewers have referred. The greeting at reception was tepid at best. A little animation would have been a nice touch. And SOME of the staff, including those in the dining room, seemed surly. But others were excellent: helpful, courteous, and genuinely interested in ensuring that guests had an enjoyable stay. For instance, when the waiter at dinner learned that it was my wife's birthday, complimentary champaign appeared unbidden. Now that's a positive attitude and worthy of a hotel of this rank. So don't let the attitude of SOME staff detract from the fact that this is a wonderfully located hotel, beautifully appointed, and staffed (mostly) by a friendly, capable staff.

Stayed in the classic room which has a lovely balcony overlooking the pretty side street. The rooms are excellent, extremely comfy bed, excellent Internet, shutters, mini bar. The hotel breakfast is excellent. With buffet and hot dishes made to order. The staff are extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble. A real gem of a hotel. Walking distance to the shops and cathedral. La duomo, a must see.

We arrived at Hotel Manzoni after a long trip, with lots of luggage. We had searched for a well-located hotel Milan hotel. Hotel Manzoni looked appealing but I've found, especially with small boutique hotels, "small and charming" can be code for "cramped, tired and tiny". Mr. Castronuovo, the excellent and gracious mangager at Hotel Manzoni, was very attentive to my request for a room with enough space for all of our travel stuff. The hotel is quiet and charming - set among all the designer shops. Just window-shopping is amazing! Excellent breakfast! Staff was very helpful in getting last minute Last Supper tickets. I can't wait to return! Excellent hotel in delightful Milan. (didn't use the gym - it's small. But Milan is a great walking city!)

One of the best hotels in Milan if you prefer shop in- shop out. Situated In a quiet side street to the famous Via Montenapoleone (prada, Lv, hogen, d&g, dior, chanel etc) 3 min walk to subwaystation Montenapoleone witch connects to the whole city and sorrunding airports. 5-10 min walk to the touristcrowded Duomo square. Hotel interior is very sophisticated and luxurious with expanded use of marbel floors etc. Love it

We stayed in a junior suie, spacious for a couple with a teenager .
Our daughter had her own cozy sofa bed in the living room.
The reception staff are all very polite and helpful.
They responded to our e-mail efficently.
And the breakfast is superb quality!

I just cand believe my eyes - are all these praisal reviews really about the Manzoni hotel we stayed at?

At the reception desk you are met by a group of young men who are always too busy discussing some burning issues. You always have to wait, you - a CUSTOMER - until they - the STAFF - stop discussing their personnal affairs and pay attention to you. "To pay attention" here means to give you the key of the room without interrupting their vivid discussion.

The room may seem to you nice at the photos but in fact it is not. All these awkward wooden pannels and a long-long corridor that to our astonishment we found INSIDE our room gave the overall impression of sleeping in an elevator of some high-class hotel and I couldn't get rid of this impression.

But then I changed my opinion for not in an elevator we were sleeping but in a toilet room! EVERY time other guests use a toilet or just open water to take shower you ALWAYS have to "enjoy" the loudest sound of flushing water.

They have the restaurant they praise. Don't go there. I ordered some meat. They burned it totally and without any embarrassement they brought the charred piece of meat that smelt with smoke. All I asked is to throw it away.

Ah, they have the doorman. Is there any any need to say that he is never at his place - always staying with the reception desk guys taking part in their conversation.

And the last one. Don't even try to ask the receptionist to order you a taxi. He won't. You'll be waited by the van with no signs of a taximeter whose only aim is to charge you 150 euro no matter whether he brings you to the airport or not. The railway station he finally brought us was obscenely close to the hotel but the trip took about an hour and a half and cost us the whole sum ("Not for me, mister, not for me, for my boss, bad traffic, you see, bad traffic, the marathon, cannot exit the city". What a shame! I am more than sure the whole city knew about the marathon well beforehand. How disgusting! )

It is the most appalling hotel we've ever stayed at, we will never come again, nor will our friends or relatives.
