My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a three night stay in August 2007. The Gran Duca lived up to the rave reviews I had read on TripAdvisor. In fact, we requested Room 104, which had been recommended on this website. It was a lovely room on the second floor, which overlooked the front of the hotel. It had a window that opened out to a patio area with plants, which provided us a lovely view from the room.

The hotel’s location is perfect--an easy five minute walk to the nearest subway stop and ten minute stroll to the Duomo. The rooms are large, their beds comfortable, bathrooms clean and up-to-date. And, their breakfast had one of the wider offerings during our 18-day stay in Italy. If you ask, the waitress will even give you a bottle of water to take with you. The staff at Gran Duca were very helpful. Via email, I asked the hotel staff to make a reservation for us to see the Last Supper. Promptly, the staff responded to my request with our reservation. Note: Reservations are the only way you will be able to see The Last Supper, which is well worth the effort – a joy to behold. When we checked in, the hotel manager reminded us of our reservation and said he would be happy to print out the reservation, if we needed it.

The hotel staff allowed us to check in early (10:00 am), which enabled us to take a much needed nap after a 26 hour journey to Italy (counting lay-overs). This is one of many kindnesses the staff showed us during our stay. We truly felt welcome there and knew we could turn to them for guidance.

For our three night stay at the Gran Duca, we were quoted a room rate of E138 a night (8-Aug.-11 Aug.). By using our Touring Club Italiano Card (---), we received a 15% discount on the room rate, which reduced our rate to E118 a night. [If you are planning to drive in Italy, you may also want to visit the Club’s Milan retail office, which offers a wide array of maps of Italy, travel guides, etc. at a discounted rate to members.]

In short, our stay was delightful and we would highly recommend the Gran Duca di York to anyone who is planning a trip to Milan. You won’t be disappointed.

We booked 2 rooms directly after reading reviews here and upon check in were given a nice king room w/ balcony and twin room for our teenage kids ..... both on 1st floor.

Hotel lived up to our expectations; staff were friendly and helpful, rooms clean and spacious(for europe), breakfast simple but adequate, and location very convenient for getting around via metro or on foot in Duomo area ( plenty of good eateries and hops within 500m); and the free internet was a plus for our cyber addicted teens.

Over all a 3 star hotel that is value for money and one that we would certainly stay at again.

Don't waste your money here. Staff are off-hand and won't help you with luggage when you arrive, they are more interested in looking at their computer than guests arriving at the front counter, and the breakfast is second-rate. Rooms are very small and noisy with air conditioning ramping up the noise levels. Spend a little bit more and stay somewhere that cares about hospitality and making guests feel welcome.

Central to sites - easy walking distance to the cathedral. Lovely and clean rooms, nice bathroom. The room that we stayed in had a balcony - I think it was the only room that did. The balcony was a good size - with an outside table and chairs on it. Breakfast was nice - normal european breakie. Reception were very helpful.
Great hotel - would stay there again

I just returned from a trip to Italy and I wanted to say how much I loved the Gran Duca Di York hotel in Milan. It was authentic, while still having all the modern conveniences. The location was perfect--just a block or so from the Duomo, lots of shopping and restaurants and numerous metro lines. From the outside, the building is a beautiful, yellow, Italian building. Inside, the rooms are well furnished, also yellow, with modern bathrooms. The air conditioning worked well and the room was extremely clean and well kept. We had a lovely little terrace surrounded by folliage and flowers. It overlooked the quiet street the hotel is on. The hotel breakfasts were wonderful, with plenty of pastries and meats and yogurts. The hotel staff also made cappucinos to order, which were delicious. The staff in general were very friendly and helpful. All in all, I wish I had planned more days in this hotel...nothing to complain about or be concerned about at all. A wonderful stay in Milan.

I was slightly disappointed in this hotel. It's not quite as stylish and charming as it appears on the web site. They've done some updating, but the bathrooms and the lobby are a bit funky. And while it's centrally located, it's tucked away in an odd corner on a street without much charm. Also, the breakfast staff gave us a hard time for rearranging a couple tables so our group could sit together.

Still searching for the perfect Milan getaway....

Fabulous little hotel in the most ideal situation, close to the shops and Duomo, and yet peaceful and quiet in a little frequented side-street.
Breakfasts were ample with a good fresh cold buffet. A nice touch were the free soft drinks in the mini-bar (very generous considering they could cost 5-6 euro in the near-by cafes)
A slight disadvantage was the lack of a garden or outdoor space around the hotel to relax and I would not recommend the cocktails in their bar- our Bellinis were not up to much and the Camparis in the minibar tasted awful and may have been past their best.
So buy your alcoholic drinks elsewhere and enjoy this lovely friendly hotel.
