“Thank you Matteo and particulary Marco”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Gran Duca di York for one night last weekend. I'd been to Milan before and did not particularly enjoy it. I found it expensive and overrated. This trip changed my opinion of the city and the starting point was our night at the Gran Duca. It is a simple clean and relaxing hotel to stay in. No fuss and glamour just nice, clean, quiet and functional, and close to all that Milan has to offer. The staff were exceptionally friendly and Marco, who doubles as a porter/barman was delightfully pleasant and made our stay there. We arrived late in the evening and wanted to head out to sample the delights of Milan as we were heading to Como the next day, We stopped for a drink at the bar before heading out and spent a pleasant hour with Marco. Frankly I could've stayed there all night. If you need any advice on where to go for food (and where to avoid) ask Matteo. He provided us with a map and recommendations and they were spot on. The first time I went to Milan I was charged 30 euros for one beer and a martini and lemonade (in 2003)! This time my girlfriend and I had a lovely meal and some wine for an additional 10 euros. This is a lovely hotel - sImple, clean, quiet and close to the amenities of Milan. Book a room with a balcony.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony. Essential for a morning in Milan.

My wife and I spent 5 days in Milan in September 2011. Prior to the trip, I researched the travelers' notes on Trip Advisor to find the best possible combination of (a) central location (b) spacious rooms (c) high standard of cleanliness and service and (d) good value. We were fortunate in finding all these qualities in the Gran Duca di York.

With respect to location, you could not find a more convenient one in Milan's historic centre, just 5 minutes away from the Piazza del Duomo, the ever-busy Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel and numerous streets lined with fashion goods stores where you can "shop till you drop"! Don't forget to go to the top floor of La Rinascente for a great view of the Piazza Duomo below and while you're up there, enjoy their super healthy salad for lunch.

One of Milan's "must-see" attractions is Leonardo's Last Supper in the Santa Maria delle Grazzie church, which is a nice 20-minute stroll from the hotel (note: to avoid disappointment, buy your tickets on-line well before your trip). For those looking for out-of-town bus tours, Zani Viaggi, the ticket sales/bus pick-up site, is just 10 minutes away. We were able to enjoy a day tour and cruise at the postcard-pretty Lake Cuomo, and catch a envious glimpse of the lakeview estates of George Clooney and Richard Bronson.

The hotel itself is on a quiet street, so sleeping soundly is not an issue. Our bedroom was spacious with enough closet space, the breakfast room was nice and airy, with ample breakfast delights and coffee served at your table. Breakfast was included in our room rate. We wish to thank Ken, the helpful young man who tried his best to make us comfortable and who answered all our questions.

The hotel layout is simple with no frills, but functional and very clean throughout. For those wishing to catch up on their email, there is a computer system on the 2nd floor. There are also free English newspapers in the spacious lobby. Let's not forget the free bottled water in the mini bar every day!

And best of all, we enjoyed all of the above at what I consider terrific value! We would definitely stay there again.

Friendly, helpful staff, and a great location make this a perfect choice for the tourist. Many fine restaurants are nearby as is access to public transportation. A number of sites are in easy walking distance. The hotel rooms are small but very nicely outfitted. A nice breakfast and free WiFi add to the positives.

Reviewed this hotel on line before making our reservations. We were definitely not disappointed. The location was perfect. We were within walking distance of everything we had planned to see in Milan. The staff was very accommodating and assisted us in locating sites and restaurants. The hotel offered free Wifi and breakfast that included scrambled eggs and bacon. I will recommend this hotel to friends traveling to Milan.

The staff is outstanding -- friendly, helpful, and gracious. The room felt brand-new, so very clean, and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. There was enough hanging space although no drawers. The bathroom had an American-style shower with nice pressure and plenty of room. In-room wi-fi was free, which is something we look for. The breakfast was very good and there's a bar where you can get a drink in the evening. The location is terrific -- just steps to the Duomo and the Castello. We lived in Milan long ago and we go back frequently, and find the hotel scene generally pretty disappointing. The value here is among the best.

Hotel is next to pinoteca ambrosia, in financial area. Great common areas, room was nice with typical european shower (small) but had a ceiling shower spray. Free Wifi, OK breakfast included, easy to walk to metro, galleria, duomo and of course shopping. Staff helped arrange dinner reservations, would stay there again when in Milan

I stayed here for 3 nights in late May 2012, and paid about $226 per night including taxes, breakfast, and free wi-fi. I enjoyed the stay very much, and would strongly recommend it. The location, about 10 minutes' walk from the Duomo and close to metro stations Cordusio (with direct service to Cadorna, where the Malpensa Express arrives and departs) and Duomo (with direct service to the central train station), is unbeatable. The hotel is in an old palace on Via Moneta, so named because of a Bank of Italy branch (with heavily-guarded currency distribution facility) next door. It's a short street that may be hard to find on a map. The hotel has been nicely renovated, and my room was not large, but clean and modern with a small balcony leading to an atrium. Free wi-fi worked well and fast. The bed was comfortable and had high-quality linens and pillows. The breakfast had great pastries, fresh fruit, and coffee, but could be improved with eggs cooked to order (the only eggs available were the powdered scrambled kind). My only minor complaint about the room was that there was only one wastebasket, in the bathroom. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay.
