Milan Marriott Hotel

I met my husband while he was on a business trip. This hotel is very convenient to a lot of things. It is a few block to the subway station and it takes you right into the Duoma Plaza. There is also a supermarket across the street which is very convenient if you needed some snacks or food for lunch if you happen to miss lunch. The people at the front desk are very helpful and had given us some excellent recommendations on where to eat and where to go. One guy in particular, Giuseppe Iacono is very helpful. He told us where to eat at a very reasonable price with excellent food.

Our room is very comfortable and I like the deep bath tub in the bathroom. The breakfast is also very good and it came with our stay. We ate a big breakfast and most of the time, we'd skip lunch and have snacks at the executive lounge.

The only slight negative comment I have is, the hotel is quite a distance from Malpensa Airpot but it is closer to Linate airport. It will cost you around $100 for a taxi ride from Malpensa Airport and the hotel does not have a shuttle bus. Linate Airport is about 10 minutes away.

Milan Marriott
We spent 2 nights using points and were very impressed. This was by far the nicest hotel in Europe we stayed on this trip. Check-in was rather slow with only one person at the counter at 2 pm. The guy at the Concierge is stuffy at best and not very warm and friendly for a Concierge. However, we were upgraded to a junior suite on the concierge level which included soft drinks and light snacks 24 hours and a nice continental breakfast with cold meats, cheese, cakes, coffee, teas and juices etc. The room was updated and beautifully decorated and the bedding was superior with comfortable Marriott king bed and the bath had both a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower with jets. We even had an exercise bike in our room and LCD TV and a large balcony. We found the location perfect with only a 10 minute walk to the Wagner subway station that would drop us off directly in front of the Duomo. The Milan subway is convenient and easy to use. We enjoyed the historic sights of Milan, the Gothic Duomo and the Castello Storzesco (The Castle) and the famous Galleria Vitorio Emanuele II (very ornate and expensive shopping mall). We took the sightseeing tour bus that can be found in front of the Duomo. It was lovely to just stroll around soaking in the atmosphere and stopping for a drink in the open outdoor cafes and “people” watch. Fortunately, we had reservations to view "The Last Supper" painting by Leonardo DiVinci which was truly a masterpiece (Must get tickets at least a month in advance). We ate at two local restaurants where the locals dine (Restaurant La Napoli and La Pace Restaurant) We did not need reservations and both were within walking distance of the Marriott. Both are highly recommended and you can eat inside or outside with outstanding service and reasonable prices. Although the outside is nothing superior, we found the location outstanding and would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others. Our only complaint is that they charge $18 euros per day for parking. No one tells you this. The valet simply takes your car away upon check-in without informing you of the daily fee. We realized it when we went to get our car out.

Stayed for 4 nights in June 2009.

Room: On the smaller side and very outdated. However it was clean and everything functioned ok apart from the A/C which even on maximum was not strong enough to really cool down the room. TV was a flat panel and had a reasonable selection of English speaking channels (BBC, CNN plus a few others). The bed was decent and our request for extra pillows was met promptly.

Bathroom: Again, very outdated and small but everything worked ok. Bathroom amenities were fairly standard - nothing special. I did note some water leakage from the sink and the bath - nothing serious though.

Service: Check in was fine. Seems this hotel hosts a lot of weddings and other events so the reception area was always quite busy. 'Full' room service closed at 11pm - we called down at 10:50 hoping to get something - no luck. They offered some soup and sandwiches which we accepted. Unfortunately they neglected to deliver any spoons for the soup. The next 20 minutes were spent trying to get somebody on the phone to remedy this! Otherwise the housekeeping services were efficient and the room was always cleaned to a decent standard.

Restaurants: Didn't eat in the hotel apart from trying the room service on the first night so can't really comment. The concierge recommended two restaurants within walking distance of the hotel - both were ok but the pizza place was definitely the better of the two.

Facilities: No pool was available that I was aware of. Didn't try the gym either. We did rent a car for a couple of days to explore the lakes and the hotel does have quite an extensive underground car park which can be accessed directly from the lobby elevators. 18 Euros for 24 hours if I remember correctly. Concierge was on hand (up to 9pm) to advise on sightseeing, restaurants, calling taxis etc etc).

Location: As some other reviewers have mentioned it is a bit out of the centre of Milan. However there is a metro station nearby (10 mins walk) and taxi's to the centre usually only took us around 10 - 15 minutes. There is a big supermarket across the street which was useful for snacks and drinks. Navigli Grande (bar and restaurant area) was also just a few minutes away by taxi.

Summary: A decent Marriott hotel which is in dire need of a renovation. Overall experience was OK but nothing exceptional. Was a bit let down by the room service and poor A/C. Location wise I think you could do a bit better by finding a hotel closer to the centre of town, having said that it wasn't a major inconvenience to us.

Our family stayed one night at the hotel and the staff could not be more accomodating. Great looking hotel, the lobby is beautiful. Hearty American breakfast.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel recently during a warm April. Our room was continuously over 77 F (25 C) and more likely 79-80 F. Lowering the thermostat did not work. When I inquired about this "malfunction" I was told the thermostat would not be activated for another couple of weeks. The only solution offered by the staff was to open the window!

The room was smaller than what I am used to in a Marriott property. However, the room was clean and the bed comfortable.

Location-wise, we knew we were choosing a hotel that was slighlty out of the way (used points), so I have no complaints here. As others have pointed out, the Wagner station was close enough to get to the few sites in Milan.

The espresso machine available in the lobby during the mornings was good as our stay did not include breakfast. The supermarket across the street and pastry shops nearby had ample choices for breakfast.

Overall, this Marriott was just average for a Marriott.

The Milan Marriott started my trip to Italy wonderfully. I paid for the room with points so I don't know how the value is, but the service, rooms, and area were top rate. While the property is not in the center of downtown, but you're better off here. There is an abundance of restaurants that locals frequent and you're not stuck in the tourist traps of the Duomo area. The hotel is close to the Wagner metro station and a day pass will run you 3 euro. My only complaint is it really isn't close enought to the metro though -- a good 5-10 minute walk.

I missed my flight to Milan and the staff was very helpful in rearranging my reservation to accomadate me when I got there. There is a stocked executive lounge on the top floor (no special key needed) for soft drinks, water, etc. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were very modern. I had a king bed and a twin in the room. I've stayed at dozens of Marriotts and can say this is one of the better kept properties.

I stayed here for one night before taking a flight. The hotel has newer rooms and great lobby. We took a taxi from the train station and the rate was under 20 euro. It is a couple blocks walk to the underground station which you can access the Duomo from. The executive lounge is a little on the small size but had great service. Don't take restaurant advice from the concierge. The restaurant he recommend was absolutely horrible. I suspect that the concierge receives pay offs from the restaurants they recommend.

If you are heading to the airport take a taxi to the express train and it will cost around 20 euro (taxi+train). The taxi fee to the airport from the hotel is around 85 Euro.
