Top location, minutes walk from railway station. Large, clean room with great en suite and big comfy bed. 5 star breakfast of hot and cold dishes. Friendly helpful staff, free wi fi in rooms and free Internet corner with pc's in lobby with comfy chairs and free coffee & tea. Friendly atmosphere in the bar in the evening with lots of snacks to help yourself to. All in all a top little hotel. Would stay again and thoroughly recommend .

This is a lovely hotel and all the staff are very friendly and want to appear attentive. I'm not sure if its because of the close proximity to the Central Train station, but there appear to be a higher than normal group of beggars, pickpockets and individuals wanting to carry your luggage, hanging around outside this hotel, this can be quite concerning particularly for lone females I would imagine. Loads of people sleeping under cardboard at every corner.
Also two massage parlours either side of the hotel, which I would suggest is not a great advert for the area, but mibe i'm not as open minded as others.
The rooms are very good particularly if facing the street rather than into rear yard.
Breakfast is exceptional.
This hotel does not offer lunch or dinner however which is a negative point.

Room Tip: Room overlooking street

Dear Scot5,

I'm really grateful for your feedback and I'm very pleased to know that you were so satisfied with the friendliness of our Staff and the quality of our services.

We are located in an area which is considered to be one of the best to visit Milan, near the railway station, the air terminal to the airports and the underground.
Despite this proximity, our area is very safe and near to 12 other hotels, 3 and 4 star, with many restaurants in close proximity too. It is not considered a dangerous or a red light area: however, Milan is no different from any other large city at night and we urge all guests to use prudence when out and about especially after dark.

Our restaurant does not offer lunch or dinner and we are sorry you considered it as a negative point. However, we are in close proximity to many restaurants and bars, and in case of future stays, please remember that our staff is always on hand to assist our guests in finding a good restaurant and can even help in securing a reservation.

Please come back and visit us again! Thank you for choosing Hotel Berna!

The hotel location is excellent, near from the station Milano Centrale, you can walk from the station to the hotel with no difficulties. As soon as we arrived we were informed that we had an upgrade for our booking, it was very nice. The room was very clean. The breakfast is excellent, a lot of things, you can eat a lot!!! Everything was fresh and delicious. There as a guest celebrating his birthday and during breakfast time all the hotel staff sang “Happy Birthday” to him. It was cool. The only complaining is the bath area size, too small, I could not take a shower without touch the wall it was not comfortable at all!!!

The Hotel Berna was excellent in every way. Close to all the transport systems; trains, buses and trams within 2 mins walking distance. The hotel staff are all very attentive and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was excellent with delicious marmalade croissants. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be returning when I next visit Milan.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Berna on 2 separate occasions using it as a stopover on our way to & from Stresa travelling by train. Don't be misled by the modest & unassuming exterior. Both times we were greeted warmly & checked in with the minimum of fuss. We were impressed by the calm & efficient way in which reception managed arrivals, departures & queries & always with good humour: even enabling us to access our room on our 2nd visit even though we had arrived 4 hours before the official check-in time. The "My Page" arrangement on their website enables you to let them know in advance of your travel plans & how you want the room to be such as type of pillows & temperature.
The 2 rooms were very different in style not at all like many modern chain hotels which tend to the bland & uniform but both were very comfortable with many nice touchs such as the free non-alcoholic mini-bar which was very welcome after a walk in the Milan sunshine, & the free unlimited Wi-Fi (with no charges after 30 minutes like some hotels we could name).
The hotel has no restaurant of its own but we were able via reception to order a meal with wine to be brought direct to our room via a service called Chef to You as we had to make an early start in the morning. This was as good as one we had had in another restaurant near Lake Maggiore the night before.
We asked if they would order a taxi for us - no problem. It turned up as we were still saying our goodbyes to the hotel staff.
Any niggles? - well our breakfast cappuccino could have arrived quicker on the 2nd morning but amidst all the plaudits we can give the Hotel Berna this pales into insignificance.
We simply cannot praise this hotel & its staff enough. The attention to detail & customer care was superb, & what's more it was great value for money.

We wondered about staying near the train station but it turned out to be a great location with easy access to the subway lines for travel around Milan and travel from Milan by train.

The room was immaculate; the service friendly and efficient, the breakfast fresh and hardy. Our room, a superior double on the 5th floor, was newly refurbished.

All of our requests, including a window on the front of the hotel on a high floor and our choice of pillows, were honored.

We asked for directions from the airport and three options were given immediately.

We will definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors have been renovated. Choose at least one level above a basic room.

We arrived from Florence by train to stay late afternoon and evening in Milan before flying back home early the next day. Chose this hotel based on the proximity to the train station as the options for getting to the airport the next morning were either by train or bus. Buses are located right outside the train station and we chose this option as it involved less handling of luggage up/down stairs or escalators and it was a Saturday departure so not as much worry re traffic hold ups. This hotel was excellent value, really a luxury boutique type hotel and it exceeded our expectations for the money spent. Check in was efficient and pleasant. The room was extremely clean with lovely linens and decorating. We were able to walk into the main tourist area of Milan in the evening from this location. A beautiful and extensive berakfast buffet opened at 7 am, sadly rushed as we had to leave to get the bus. Despite comments I had heard about Milan being an "industrial town" I was impressed as it is vibrant, cosmopolitan place where there is more going on than tourism; fun to look at all the big stores and ads of the fashion world. Hope to return one day for a longer stay and definately would stay here again.
