First meal in Italy and it was the best meal of my life.
This little joint is a family run restaurant with tons of authentic charm. They were very accommodating since we can’t speak or read Italian, the daughter spoke enough English to explain a few dishes and made sure we were happy - the whole family, including the chef took the time to greet us. About to head back to Da Franco to try their fire oven pizza.

Walking distance from AC Hotel Milano.

We overnighted in Milan and were looking for a modest restaurant within a few blocks of our hotel (AC Milan Marriott) near the train station. The place across the street was recommended by the hotel but it was full so we went to Da Franco. It was a wonderful evening among locals. The waiter (I think the chef’s son) took good care of us, recommending traditional pugleise dishes for us to try. We started with burrata cheese in olive oil, fava bean purée and steamed chickory. Mixed together on bread (or the initially provided pizza dough with olive oil and garlic), it was delicious. Lisa had the octopus wrapped around seasoned polenta (which I liked more than she did because of the texture of the octopus, which was chewy but not tough). The waiter insisted I try their wood over grilled steak so I had that (fabulous flavor!) with a cauliflower like vegetable that had dark green tops, sautéed in garlic and olive oil. The house red wine came in an open bottle - it was pretty good - so you just poured what you wanted and they charged (generously) by how much we ultimately consumed (nearly the bottle). The home made taramisu was fabulous. We washed it down with complementary shots of the Apulian liquor lemonolivo - a distillation of lemon and orange peel and olive tree (its like lemoncello but is green, less sweet, with a viscosity and the flavor of olive oil). The chef came over to chat with us in broken Italian - he was very sweet.

Ad always, another business lunch at Franco’s.
Table fo four, good food, kind waitress, nice price...
Why asking for more?
BTW: even if small, the place is quiet, hence great for a conversation...

I was walking in the area and I started smelling good stuff from this little, no-frills, no-fancy spot. Stepped in and there is a wood oven where they do everything: meat, fish and also pizza.
Try the apulian specialty "purè di fave con cicoria": die for it!!!
I tried meat (super tasty) and fish (fresh) and in doubt, ask for a suggestion to Franco: the friendly owner and cook of this precious gem will come and provide suggestions and, if you become usual and you're nice, also free tastes of delicious plates!
Definitely: give it a try, you won't regret.
Last but not least: prices very honest and very good service
