After living in Italy for 8 years I occasionally crave a bit of home. When I visit Milan I occasionally stop in to the California bakery to get a sandwhich or dessert. The location is very charming and warm with cakes piled high and cozy tables. However, the food leaves something to be desired. I had the chicken salad sanwhich on a bagel that was rather bland and more mayo than chicken. I also got a slice of cheesecake (7 EUR) and didn't eat it. The cake did not stick to the crust. The crust was not made with a graham cracker crust but was extremely bland (perhaps made from insipid lady fingers and enough butter that I couldn't break through it with my spoon). My friend got a sandwhich and a brownie (4.50)- where does a small brownie in a little plastic sack cost 4.50? only in Milan. I don't think I will be coming back.
